One good hit wonders
Posted by Auntie Beryl on 17 August 2010 - 10:57pm.
I've just been sat here in front of a repeat of a Chart Show 1997, and I'm glad I suffered so you didn't, the Massive.
That said, I was subjected to a fuck-awful single by the post-Roses John Squire fuckup the Seahorses. As well as the Telebubbies. And Space.
Any road, I really loved "Blinded By The Sun" by the busker-plus-guitar-god mistake that was the Seahorses and that awful waste of talent, somehow, reminded me that the past is often shit.
Any other one hit plus everything else shit wonders the Massive would care to share?

"It's an anagram!"
I somewhat desperately invested rather heavily in the Seahorses ("It's an anagram - He Hates Roses!") as they emerged in my year of birth + 16, which is when I think you begin to discover the musiuc which changes your life. As my fixation with the Roses wasn't going to go anywhere, they had to do. The B-side Dreamer, off Love Is The Law, still sounds as dreamy today as it did in the summer of 1997 and Bury getting promoted to the First Division, Princess Diana and underage drinking at the Jolly Waggoners.
Bloody hell...
that Seahorses record is shocking! The sad thing is I remembered it as being quite good.
I still listen
to the first Squire solo album, no wait come back!
Especially this:
...the new Roses (almost!!)
...this thread has reminded me of this single. It came out around the time of the Roses Second Coming and when I first heard it on the radio I actually thought it was the Roses new single. Its a shame because its miles better than anything on Second Coming (and indeed miles better than anything the Bluetones did before or since)
Hmmmm..........
Okay - "If" was really good too...
..I love the clunking bassline.
But Slight Return was SO good that it was still head and shoulders over their other stuff.
Bluetones
I think this is one of the great, forotten classics of britpop.
Believe it or not, I had never seen this video until now.
Saw these live about 8 years ago, they wouldnt play this,I thought that they were being really arsey, they arent exactly PM, Dylan, Springsteen or the Dame are they ? (30 + year career, huge body of work)
Is the Bluetones body of work that well known they could afford to leave out the biggest hit they ever had??
At a local festival a couple of years ago, Chumbawumba left without playing tubthumping - cocks.
Latin Quarter
One really brill song (Radio Africa), then every single other thing they recorded was awful.
Hmm.. I always quite liked this one..
Outstanding single from the good Captain..
..can't say I'm overly familiar with his back catalogue but Happy Talk, What and Snakes and Ladders fall somewhat short of classic status
