One at a time, ladies

David Hepworth's picture

One of the issues we've been talking about on the podcast is how to make a choice from the wide selection of fantasy girlfriends provided by box set television.

I have a particular dilemma, having developed crushes on both Mary-Louise Parker, the pot-growing soccer Mom of "Weeds"...

...and also Tina Fey, the wisecracking, screwball belle of "30Rock".

Whose fanclub shall I join?

Suit yourself

but my heart belongs to Buffy.

Gatz | 11 December 2008 - 9:45pm

and i'd have seconded you

until Willow started becoming terribly nice. A season of 'how i met your mother' confirms that la Hannigan is certainly somebody i'd happily take home to meet the folks...

ivan | 11 December 2008 - 10:00pm

Sorry mate, she's taken

If, like me, you like redheads, how about the daughter in Six Feet Under? Or, if you prefer them more mature, Bree Vanderkamp

0
Mark Godden | 12 December 2008 - 1:54am

I've been stalking Tina Fey for sometime

So I'd suggest you pick the other one.

0
Cookieboy | 11 December 2008 - 9:48pm

mary-louise

she was hot in the west wing but then there's CJ and Donna and and....

0
Chris G | 11 December 2008 - 9:53pm

and and...

Dr Bartlett. Oooh yeh.

0
matthew | 11 December 2008 - 10:09pm

M-L P

Yes, hot in the West Wing, but she does this thing where she doesn't open her mouth when she speaks, as if she is practising to work with Lord Charles, or Lenny the Lion.
Offputting.

0
SirTerence | 11 December 2008 - 10:20pm

no the mumblings hot

it occasions the odd lip bite sorry I'll stop now.
what about Parker Posey?

0
Chris G | 11 December 2008 - 11:06pm

Sigh!

Parker Posey

0
Stuart Graham | 12 December 2008 - 7:34am

she looks like

she needs some food inside her

0
Simon Ford | 12 December 2008 - 8:22am

It's all over

I saw this pretty young lady on the Glasgow Underground the other day -she was wearing a very short skirt.

The first thing that sprung to mind was - "She'll catch her death!"

It's all over, I can tell you.

0
Stuart Graham | 12 December 2008 - 8:28am

i'm considering a peurile comment

involving the word 'meat' but I think i'll leave it there...

0
ivan | 12 December 2008 - 9:41am

I think that's a very old picture

She was 40 last month.

0
David Hepworth | 12 December 2008 - 8:49am

careful David

you'll have Selina Scott and Joan Bakewell on your back....

0
Chris G | 12 December 2008 - 10:03am

Dirty Sod

I just don't understand how you can bang on about them above yet neglect N.C.I.S. time after time.

The delightful Sasha Alexander played Kate and she got shot at the end of Season 2. Deaded. The first 2 episodes of season 3 was all about how her colleagues saw her as she re-appeared to them before her funeral. Funny and sad. This video is a short compilation with music provided by Sarah McLachlan.

Come On !

Only another 120 lecherous posts to rightfully knock that tosh off top Blog spot. You know it makes sense.

Hot Cider | 12 December 2008 - 12:39am

I've always lived by the maxim...

... "If you can't be good in bed, at least be funny," so I'll go for Tina Fey, thus taking the pressure off me in that department too.

My "if wet" choice would be the gorgeous Mel (Raquel Cassidy), Jack Dee's character's wife in the underrated "Lead Balloon."

0
Metal Mickey | 12 December 2008 - 9:17am

I thought we were only

talking about American heart throbs but if were widening the net to the Uk Raquel Cassidy brightens the screen every time she's on , she was the best thing about teachers too.

0
Chris G | 12 December 2008 - 9:34am

Chucked her the other week

in favour of Claire Skinner off Outnumbered.
She took it well and we’re still good friends.
They call me the wanderer.

0
Richard Lowe | 12 December 2008 - 9:51am

I hate the expression "LOL" out of all proportion...

... yet on a cold, dull, hungover Friday morning, for "They call me the wanderer", you sir, get an "LOL."

0
Metal Mickey | 12 December 2008 - 9:56am

Since nobody's done it yet

I hereby claim Hayden Pananananantierre (or however you spell it) from Heroes :-)

0
Joe R | 12 December 2008 - 9:50am

Oh topical

She also sings as well. Well if you can count singing twee songs on assorted Radio Disney CDs. It's a start. She'll have a CD of Leonard Cohen covers before you know it.

0
Beany | 12 December 2008 - 10:15am

This time next year

we'll *all* have a CD of Leonard Cohen covers out.

0
Joe R | 12 December 2008 - 10:21am

Isn't she

about 12?

0
Gav Leonard | 12 December 2008 - 4:28pm

One of us , one of them

UK - Raquel Cassidy without a doubt.

US - Lisa Edeilstein aka Dr Lisa Cuddy from House.

Long suffering strong women, childish, petulant men, I see a pattern emerging.

0
ceepee | 12 December 2008 - 10:18am

Ooo, Cuddy!

I never know quite where to look when she's onscreen, there's almost too much gorgeousness to take in. Dr Alice Roberts from Coast runs her a close second; it's her voice as much as her pulchritude. And this from a bloke who gets white coat hypertension just looking at a doctors' surgery.

0
Graham Johns | 13 December 2008 - 1:34am

Megyn Price

Of American sitcoms Grounded For Life and Rules Of Engagement.

Highly recommended.

0
SimonL | 12 December 2008 - 11:16am

Katherine Parkinson...

... The IT Crowd. She lovely (sigh...)

0
ganglesprocket | 12 December 2008 - 1:44pm

It has to be CJ

or Miranda Raison from Spooks. Though Keeley Hawes would also be in with a shout

0
IanP | 12 December 2008 - 3:31pm

those 2 are ok for boys

but Hermione Norris as Ros now your talking.....

0
Chris G | 12 December 2008 - 3:51pm

Ladies

Mary McCormack (Kate Harper) in The West Wing
Jenna Fisher (Pam Beesley) in The Office (US)

and

Jamie-Lynn Sigler (Meadow Soprano) in The Sopranos

What do you mean I can only pick one?!

0
David Sutherland | 12 December 2008 - 5:09pm

How about Juliet from Lost?

Elizabeth Mitchell's the name. Classy and lethal. Excellent.

0
Azeem | 12 December 2008 - 5:35pm

It has been a difficult choice

but at the risk of upsetting Diane Keaton, it is Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern who is the lucky recipient of my hot loving...

Valerie Harper

0
SirTerence | 12 December 2008 - 8:36pm

Jill

For 23 years I have carried a torch for Jill Swinburne (Barbara Flynn) in The Beiderbecke Affair.

0
Inky Fingers | 12 December 2008 - 9:45pm

Gentleman , please

All this talk is unseemly...Oh go on then, Mary Louise Parker, Kirsten Dunst, Diane Kruger, and that lovely lass from Life on Mars.

0
On The Fence | 13 December 2008 - 3:49pm

Oh, why not!

0
Gav Leonard | 14 December 2008 - 1:29am

Closer to home

It has to be the Word's very own Kate Mossman. Can you hook me up please Mr Hepworth?

0
thecolonel | 16 December 2008 - 3:06pm

OMG!!!!!

OMG!!!!!

You've finally turned into a lads mag.

0
mrsdanvers | 17 December 2008 - 10:57am

I refuse to apologise

Since when has appreciating the beauty of actresses *not* being a key part of the entertainment experience? And if any woman wants to do the same with actors, be my guest.

0
David Hepworth | 18 December 2008 - 2:09pm

Well, since you ask...

there's a clue in my username.

So that'll be, Jennifer Beals in "The L Word", Marlee Matlin in "The West Wing" and Rachel Griffiths in "Brothers and Sisters" (too crazy in "Six feet Under").

It gets interesting when your fantasy girlfriends end up together.

http://www.thelword-downbelow.com/assets/images/critique/s04e06/s04e025....

Although I'm not averse to watching Gorgeous George (Clooney) and John Barrowman spreading his favours widely as Captain Jack.

0
mrsdanvers | 18 December 2008 - 4:44pm

Grrrr.

Well, it's always been Sandra Bullock for me.

But, one has to have an age related back up plan, which goes.

Marcia Cross;
Marcia Cross

Julia Stiles;
Julia Stiles

Michelle Trachtenberg.
Michelle Trachtenberg

Best to be prepared. An heir and a spare.
