Entertainment For Lively Minds
Oi, you nicked our album title
Posted by Steve Turner on 16 August 2011 - 9:29pm.
How many times has this happened - John Martyn nicks Live at Leeds after the Who had already done it and then blow me down if those naughty Pink Floyd people don't go and steal Dark Side of the moon from Medicine Head. Must be some more around - obviously Greatest hits and best ofs don't count.

Red
Black Uhuru, Sammy Hagar and King Crimson.
There's probably more...
Blue
Joni Mitchell/Simply Red
Real Life
Magazine, Simple Minds, Joan As Police Woman.
Toys In The Attic
Was going to be a Caravan album, but Aerosmith got there first. So Caravan called it 'Cunning Stunts' instead. Does this count?
Play - Magazine, Moby and Squeeze
Mirage - Meat Puppets, Fleetwood Mac, Klaus Schultze and Camel!
"We're Only In It For The Money"
should have been used by a lot of bands
Let It Be...
Fabs / Replacements
Iron Fist - Motörhead / Nana Mouskouri
Let it Be - Laibach too
so that's Fabs, Replacements AND Laibach!
My test has failed...
Nana Mouskouri did not record an album called Iron Fist.
John Coltrane & The Boo Radleys...
... Giant Steps.
'Something Else' - Eddie Cochran, Cannonball Adderley, Ornette Coleman, The Move & the Kinks.
Also
take away the `s´ at the end and you have the Taj Mahal album Giant Step (OK, so you also have to take away the `/De Ole Folks At Home´ part of the title since it it a sort of two-in-one deal, but still!)
Discovery
ELO and Daft Punk.
Now there's a double bill.
P.S. add Guillemots to the 'Red' user list
And
The Communards.
Laura Nyro
nicked the title Smile in -74...from the Beach Boys' album that didn't actually see the light of day until this millenium...so maybe you could say that they nicked it from her...no ?
Oh, and
the Jayhawks as well!
Wasn't The HJH White LP
supposed to be called 'Music In A Dolls House' before Family did that
Just two more:
"Necrotism - Descanting The Insalubrious" (Carcass, S Club 7)
"Hammer Smashed Face" (Cannibal Corpse, Swingle II)
Born Again - Randy Newman / Black Sabbath
.
On The Beach
Neil Young/Chris Rea
The same Chris Rea
who pluralised Justin Heywood's "Blue Guitar" and released an 11-cd album.
OMG!!!

Up
R.E.M. / Peter Gabriel
Add a !
And you'd have Shania Twain too. Most of her song titles end in ! .
That's why she's
Shite!
"When the...
...pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king
What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight
And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring
There's no body to batter when your mind is your might
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
And remember that depth is the greatest of heights
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land
And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right"
Fiona Apple and ooh, loads of others.
Chinese Democracy
About 11 years into the making of Guns'n'Roses much-storied "Chinese Democracy", those wacky punks The Offspring put out a press release announcing their new album "Chinese Democracy - (You Snooze, You Lose)".
Naturally, Axl Rose saw the funny side and sent a platoon of lawyers bearing Cease & Desist letters. And then he promptly released the finished album 6 months later.
Everything Must Go
Steely Dan/Manic Street Preachers
Islands
King Crimson/The Band
I'd like to add that I adore that period KC and to this day I think The Band are SHITE!
Ahh Sir James..
a rare lapse in taste there....
You will be telling me next that Gram Parsons is overated?
Surely not.
Black Album
Black Album - Damned / Jay-Z / Metallica (Colloquially known as The Black Album, in the same way The Beatles is referred to as 'The White Album')
Also,
Do It Yourself - Ian Dury / Seahorses
shouldn't
Spinal Tap be in there, or is that just sleeve concept?
Something for the Weekend
A title used by Stackridge, Radio Stars and Brass Construction for their LPs and a single by The Divine Comedy.
P.S. I Love You
Elvis Costello's 1982 masterpiece, Imperial Bedroom was originally going to be called P.S. I Love You but had to change its title at the last minute because of a soppy ballad compilation of the same name getting released the same time.
P.S.
There is also a P.S I Love You remix album by Kid 606, a new Canadian band, a movie soundtrack and a Beatles track. Not forgetting an Irish novel.
Untitled
Loads of 'em!
We've missed an obvious one:
It connects Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Scott Walker, Beyonce, Huey Lewis & the News (almost) and Foreigner amongst many others.
I know of at least four albums called
Peter Gabriel.
Thriller
Michael Jackson and Lambchop
