Entertainment For Lively Minds
Of interest to Beatle fans...

TV interview with John and Paul in 1968. Both seem under the influence of pot. They're variously incisive, befuddled and utterly deluded about Apple (both rave about Magic Alex). Gruesome yet compelling .
And Paul fighting back tears as he's filmed listening to 'Beautiful Boy'. Touching yet awkward. Starts a little way in, clip begins with interview.

Here's another real rarity
Here's another real rarity from the same 1968 publicity tour. Lennon and McCartney appearing on The Tonight Show. The double tragedy is that the original tape was wiped from the archives, so this footage a fan filmed with an 8mm sound camera off his television is all that exists. The other tragedy is that Johnny Carson was on holiday, and his inept stand in host, ex-baseball star Joe Garagiola, doesn't appear to realise a chat show host is meant to ask questions. And I haven't even mentioned Talula Bankhead, his drunken co-host. A frustratingly wasted opportunity. An enormous coup utterly blown.
Tallulah Bankhead on I Love Lucy
...or Tallulah? Gosh...
Three minutes and twenty two seconds of Tallulah Bankhead on I Love Lucy in 1957. Tallulah gave everyone the heebie-jeebiees during rehearsal by appearing to be totally inept. Yet, when the show was taped she turned in this wonderful vignette of a performance.
In her lifetime, Tallulah experienced a few highs, and many lows. Wikipedia gives a good summary if anyone is interested in finding out more about this fascinating woman.
Behind the scenes of the Tonight Show
Here's an extract of the behind the scenes shenanigans of the Lennon/McCartney duff appearance on The Tonight Show.

My favourite bit
"I put two tickets aside for Simon and Garfunkel. And when they arrived, they discovered that two people impersonating them had picked up their tickets and there was no way they could possibly get in."
PS Cheers for the Tallulah clip, it fantastic.
