Its not as if

its for the first time - the 1994 tour (which led to writing 'Talk Tonight'), Morning Glory sessions, 1996 US tour, 200 Europena tour etc etc.

On Digital spy he is described as - "the 'Falling Down' group's founding member" - suggesting Van Morrison writes for the site.

He'd prob do alright solo thou, a lot better than Liam would cope

Same old, same old

Noel falls out with Liam, Liam falls out with Noel repeat ad infinitum.

Noasis

Thank fuck.
The end of the shouty boys.

0
archiepelago | 29 August 2009 - 1:00am

about time.

At last - I want to know who the fuck has been buying tickets and albums all this time. First album great, second album okay and then .... .... .... They have been hanging on way too long. I will sleep soundly tonight.

A great band

and great songwriter. Do better fuckers.

Randlepmcmurphy | 29 August 2009 - 1:43am

I won't be committing suicide...

Will you?

0
bricameron | 29 August 2009 - 5:15am

Oh...

well.

0
Patrick Crowther | 29 August 2009 - 6:19am

Situation vacant

Liam could always apply to be backing vocals for Blur! Looks like Blur finally blew Oasis away.

Lunaman | 29 August 2009 - 8:42am

The churchbells are ringing

for the first time since VE day, and last Sunday.

RobertC | 29 August 2009 - 8:45am

And the sun is...

sheeeeiiinning.

0
Patrick Crowther | 29 August 2009 - 8:58am

Bargepole warns

don't get your hopes up, they'll be back together by the end of the year!

-1
bargepole | 29 August 2009 - 9:04am

You've given me

a fit of the giggles Patrick, and it is indeed sheeeeeiiiiining.
Thanks - it's going to be good day. Hope yours is to.

RobertC | 29 August 2009 - 9:35am

another clever bit of marketing and PR

yep another row, which is part of the chemistry of this fine band. but like Bargepole I dont write them off just yet. This latest row will attract plenty of tabloid coverage and get the rock commentariat writing all sorts of eulogies. can't wait for the reunion tour in a few years time.

even if Oasis cant really cut it in the studio any more they can still deliver a live show when they put their minds to it, as I witnessed at Wembley last month.

0
rocker43 | 29 August 2009 - 9:31am

Could be, but...

I don't know how clever from a PR point of view it is to cancel several dates on a (I presume) sell-out tour.

And a couple of the chaps who posted earlier... language, please?

0
johnlyons121 | 29 August 2009 - 1:37pm

Yes language

when talking about Oasis remember its fookin' not fucking, Shiiiiiiiiyyyyyttte not shit and any member of the Beatles except John is a 'fookin nipple'

0
DogFacedBoy | 29 August 2009 - 2:32pm

point taken

but I was thinking more long term. it helps to perpetuate the band's legendary capacity for controversy by messing things up like this. Everyone will miss them and bemoan the fact that they're not together. Then out of the blue there will be a kiss and make-up, another album, and they're back on the road again. Tickets will shift by the bucketloads.

rocker43 | 29 August 2009 - 5:57pm

On the positive side

Tony McCarroll`s Classical Gas are still going strong:

Fantastic!

I'd never heard that before.

0
Patrick Crowther | 29 August 2009 - 10:41am

Dear Andy Bell

If this is the end of Oasis and you need some gainful employment, please get on the blower to messrs Gardener, Queralt and Colbert and organise a Ride reunion. You know it makes sense. Thanks.

0

Liam can now concentrate on his long-mooted...

oral history of Burnage set to zither music project. Or something.

0
Patrick Crowther | 29 August 2009 - 3:09pm

Apparently

he's very into Tusk and Ivor Cutler at the moment as well. Could be an influence there. He's also going to be providing the spoken vocal for Tubular Bells 12.

RobertC | 29 August 2009 - 3:24pm

As someone who...

... who's life was changed by the arrival of Oasis at the most psychologically transient period of one's life, for reasons that I don't need to go into here, it is a great great shame. Of course, they weren't the band they were back in the heady days of 1994, where they shot into the stratosphere like a blazing, five-headed Mancunian bahamut. But they still meant something, 5 days ago as much as when I first heard 'Acquiesce'. They still mean something because I am a fan, as much as many members of the Massive are fans of Steely Dan, the Beatles and Broooooooce.

The Beatles. To be honest I never really got that comparison and feel that to use it as a weapon against their musical credibility is a little lazy. I personally believe it was borne out of PR spin, simply because Noel liked the Beatles, Liam looked a bit like mid-70s John Lennon and they covered 'I Am The Walrus'. It was a good selling point to the curious but not yet converted and created a strong brand identity. It was easy. For me though, they'll always be closer to the Who - a bullish, aggressive, wall-of-noise juggernaut, as much about attitude as tunes.

Attitude. Everything is nothing without context. This applies especially to the arts. It is about personal interpretation, and every chord change or snare beat conjures up a picture or a feeling unique to you when played by the band you love the most. Oasis' attitude was one of the things that drew me to them, and every time I listen to Definitely Maybe, What's The Story... or even Be Here Now, sound turns to image turns to memory and I once again, in my mind's eye, become a tiny 13-year old suddenly realising he could and he had to stand up for himself. By proxy, Oasis saved me many batterings, they fought back and so did I. I grew up with them. I grew to love them. When they made poor albums, I acknowledged that they were poor, but I still loved them. True fandom is as noble a love as a long-standing friendship, and that's how I feel about Oasis. I feel loyal. I'm sad that they're gone, but glad that they've FINALLY given themselves a chance to redeem their short-lived, but so bright, legacy.

So, in summary... if it is long-standing, R.I.P Oasis, you brought me into this world and taught me many things about it. When you were strong, I worshipped you. You've been ill for some years now but I always loved you. I'm glad you're at peace and with the bands you love. Sleep well, great beast.

Isn't a bahamut

a large fish?

0
Chris G | 29 August 2009 - 5:38pm

Not just me in here then

Oasis were the best thing to happen in 94. Best of Britpop (or Score Draw with Blur), and a damned fine live band for years after.
Some of the songs are like "soundtracks to a moment"

Poor mans Beatles? I understand the reference, but being born in 1970 I missed the excitement of The Beatles. Oasis was mine, and probably many others, own version

I believe there is a musical line which goes:
Beatles - Slade - Jam - (not much at all) - Oasis. The legacies will remain for generations!

If you don't like Oasis, fair dos. I think they are/were a fantastic band (and yes, I'm including Be Here Now and Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants)

Have they split - probably not just an effin big argument
If they have, as previously suggested RIP

Rigid Digit | 29 August 2009 - 7:00pm

Really

..enjoyed Alex's post above. Nice one, as the bros might say.

I am a bit worried

that some on this site even think their first album was good. Fucking beats me how anyone can reach that conclusion. Awful band and good riddance to them.

0
Steve Turner | 29 August 2009 - 6:17pm

Seconded

and thirded.

0
RobertC | 29 August 2009 - 6:19pm

Amazing

The media coverage this has got considering a) they do it every couple of years and b)the number of people who could name three out of their last five albums.

0
Captain Underpants | 29 August 2009 - 7:35pm

Er...

I'm up for the challenge...

No Googling I promise...

Right - Dig Out Your Soul, Heathen Chemistry, that Small Faces type one, er...

The thick plottens....

Noel said: "I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable.
"And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new."
