Oasis album artwork: any thoughts, viewers?

It looks like it could be amazing

and it's waaay better than some of their previous. One would hope it'll sound like some kind of very far out, freak-rock, vaguely psychedelic affair. Instead, it will probably be the usual as-futuristic-as-falconry old rubbish.

lovelyian | 15 July 2008 - 1:02pm

Oh god

have they got a new album coming out? I've already got some - can I be excused from this one?

Leedsboy | 15 July 2008 - 1:07pm

Why more than one?

Got some? Surely you only need the one?

Handsome.P.Wonderful | 15 July 2008 - 1:26pm

Well what happened..

is I rather liked Definately Maybe. Thought it was splendid. So bought Whats The Story when it came out. Thought it to be patchy but 3 or 4 good songs (and Wonderwall is great). So bought the next one (Be Here Now?) and thought it coke addled tosh. Overblown and self indulgent. So I stopped there.

Leedsboy | 15 July 2008 - 2:01pm

New release?

EVERYONE HIDE!!
(Sorry Mr Hepworth, I know caps and !! are not allowed, but under the circumstances.....)

Commoner | 15 July 2008 - 1:54pm

I'm already very excited

This does look like one of the Coral's covers around the time of their debut. Is 'Come In/ Come Out' a La's reference?

Still - it's Oasis, plagiarism is good.

In response to the freak rock, psychedelic comments - have you heard this?

Chimney Singing Crow | 15 July 2008 - 1:09pm

Hmmm

It's no Setting Sun though is it?

lovelyian | 15 July 2008 - 1:58pm

Same old same old

The cover looks well up to Oasis's standard (i.e. crap). I thought it was generally accepted that Oasis have hade their 15 minutes of fame? Let's move on.

Handsome.P.Wonderful | 15 July 2008 - 1:08pm

Future Legends

and Icons though....worrying?

Commoner | 15 July 2008 - 1:55pm

I'm guessing

that they couldn't actually get Peter Blake then? It reminds me of Frank Zappa's parody of the 'Sgt Pepper' sleeve, which I suppose is about par really.

StevenC | 15 July 2008 - 1:11pm

My first thoughts too...

"I'm guessing that they couldn't actually get Peter Blake then?"

Trevor_Raggatt | 15 July 2008 - 1:47pm

Agreed

My first thought was that it's pretty revolutionary and groundbreaking...for 1967...

AgentGraves | 15 July 2008 - 10:46pm

and that pretty much

sums up the music as well

Leedsboy | 15 July 2008 - 10:55pm

It's ok

competently done, usual cliched symbolism - one or two nice flourishes... you know where I'm going with this don't you.

badartdog | 15 July 2008 - 1:25pm

light and bright

interpret your own rhyming slang....

Commoner | 15 July 2008 - 1:56pm

Mmmmm...

tasteful.

Patrick Crowther | 15 July 2008 - 1:30pm

Just found out...

...there's a new solo Jenny Lewis album in spetember as well. The new Verve one in August. Oasis in October.

Couldn't be happier with that

Chimney Singing Crow | 15 July 2008 - 1:31pm

That's how they *want* it to sound

Zany, colourful, rich, strange.
Bet it still sounds like Burnage Job Centre on a wet Thursday.

David Hepworth | 15 July 2008 - 1:40pm

Must.............resist...........urge..............to .........

........get wound up..........

Failing......

Keep forgetting that everyone here hates them

Chimney Singing Crow | 15 July 2008 - 1:41pm

By no means everyone.

Just me.

David Hepworth | 15 July 2008 - 1:43pm

I only hate the fact

they reached a second album, plus some...

Commoner | 15 July 2008 - 1:58pm

And me

Although, as I tell my children, hate is a very ugly emotion.

Lucas Hare | 15 July 2008 - 9:54pm

In that case

what a great feature it would make if you interviewed them...

just a thought

Chimney Singing Crow | 15 July 2008 - 1:45pm

Is the Photoshop collage

shaping up to be the new Roger Dean?
Weller’s latest uses this device - to quite good effect, unlike this mess. I suspect Oasis noticed.

Richard Lowe | 15 July 2008 - 1:49pm

Awful

Wonder if they were influenced by Coldplay's decision to go with some real artwork.. ?

I'm bored to tears of collages that a 5 year old could snip out and pritt stick together - it isn't clever, it doesn't say anything except to the cutter / sticker, and frankly it looks like a mess.

They are obviously a little bit bashful about it too - they've forgotten to add their name to it.

Part Time Dave | 15 July 2008 - 1:49pm

No seriously, google it

It looks like Death May Be Your Santa Claus by Second Hand. And possibly some other grisly psychedelic abomination, possibly by Pearls Before Swine or someone like that

simonperrins | 15 July 2008 - 2:02pm

I've just had a thought...

Maybe the cover is the art homework from Lennon or Peaches (I may have got the second child's name wrong). Most parents stick their offsprings doodlings on the fridge or mummy takes it proudly into work. Noel inflicts his kids attempts on an apathetic public.

Handsome.P.Wonderful | 15 July 2008 - 2:10pm

heavy handed metaphor alert

is the picture in the bottom right part of this one?

if so here goes my metaphor the charge of the scots greys (at Waterloo) started off great in fact everyone thought they would sweep the french before them, but they went to soon were badly led had some impact but ultimately fizzled out and ran off into the distance. And with the benefit of hind sight weren't as important as they first appeared.

next stop why Kid A is like the battle of salamanca..

Chris G | 15 July 2008 - 2:41pm

Ha Ha!

Okay, I get the joke. It is a joke, right? C'mon, stop messing about...

http://www.digoutyoursoul.com/

Erm, sorry, it's true.

Beany | 15 July 2008 - 2:45pm

You see, the thing is...

I've run out of bad things to say about Oasis. The difference between me and them is, I know when to stop because I have nothing left to say.

Lucas Hare | 15 July 2008 - 2:55pm

surely you

can dig something out of your soul?

Chris G | 15 July 2008 - 2:58pm

Allow me

Uninspired, lazy, hackneyed, inconsequential, poor lyrical themes married to dull chords and rhythms.

See, it's easy. Pretty much what the Gallaghers have been saying since the non-stop nonsense from Be Here Now onwards.

At least we'll have a few high profile Liam and Noel interviews to look forward to again. Comedy gold. The Abbot and Costello of this generation. 'Who's on first?', 'F*ck off, you tw*t'.

Andy_B | 15 July 2008 - 3:08pm

It's an interesting, stylish picture

I like it. Looks cheap and nasty, but in a good way. Reminds me of the excellent cover for Miles Davis' Bitches Brew album. If someone could do me the favour of posting said image as I don't know how to?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Bitches_brew.jpg

LOUDspeaker | 15 July 2008 - 3:04pm

Just paste you picture

Url in this piece of code.
"" bit is. This from the faq section if you need it again. I have it in word file for convienence.

Chris G | 15 July 2008 - 3:09pm
LOUDspeaker | 15 July 2008 - 3:23pm

I'm with you Chimney!

Cover is great, they are great and I'm sure the album will be great. Never ashamed to proclaim my love for Oasis.

Jamie_Bowman | 15 July 2008 - 3:16pm

so love is blind then?

and dea.....

Chris G | 15 July 2008 - 3:20pm

Hmmm...

Top left a little like the cover of 'Mind Games'? And let's not dwell on the half chewed Apple. It's probably just a freakish coincidence.

StevenC | 15 July 2008 - 4:18pm

Bless 'em

They're still trying aren't they. Just that little bit too hard.

Five-Centres | 15 July 2008 - 5:28pm

I've always liked Julian House's work.

Especially his Prodigy, Primal Scream and Stereolab stuff. And I must admit his Oasis cover is on first look, top drawer.

Best enjoyed on vinyl cover's I suppose, as always.

Hopefully the music is up there with the sleeve!

Here is some more of his stuff.

Album Covers

Springer | 15 July 2008 - 7:05pm

Yes

Those I like, less is more. Whereas the Oasis one seems rather overblown, full of pretentious, clumsy imagery and symbolism that is supposedly deeply meaningful and yet says nothing really (sound and fury and all that). Hang on, that sounds familiar. Really looking forward to the new experimental direction - more of the same with knobs on by the sound of it, Noel's vocals just seem to get more soppy sounding too. You never know it might just be the return to form after all these years.

Sven | 15 July 2008 - 8:03pm

Oh No

If the album is anything like the cover I´m out of here. Last one to leave please turn off the lights.

On The Fence | 17 July 2008 - 9:55am

Ronseal

Wouldn't they be better just putting a picture of a plate of meat & potatoes on the front and be done with it ?

GunsOfBrixton | 19 July 2008 - 9:54am

Slade without the tunes, the costumes

and the joie de vivre. Funny how Slade's titles had deliberate bad spelling but you knew what they meant. Oasis just stick to incomprehensible bad grammar - on purpose? We'll never know.
Dig Out Your Soul
Be Here Now
Don't Believe The Truth
..what a bossyboots that Gallagher is, always spouting his gibberish commands.

dannyboy3000 | 19 July 2008 - 2:28pm

AWOP-BOP-ALOO-MOP-ALOP-BAM-BOOM...

is gibberish too, but says more than Oasis' Special Brew philosophy ever will.

Patrick Crowther | 20 July 2008 - 9:40am
