Now it's Simoncelli

alastairpurves's picture

Last week Dan Wheldon, today Marco Simoncelli has been killed at Sepang during the Moto GP. I've been Sky Plussing the race to watch later. Not sure if I've got the heart now. From what I've read he came off the bike and was hit by Rossi and Edwards and his helmet came off. They say these things come in threes.Christ,I hope not.

Rossi & Edwards?

That's 40% of Status Quo - don't suppose Parfitt & Bown were racing as well were they?

You can't really see on the Video why he lost control

Marco Simoncelli RIP.
He loses control and as he's falling he takes out Colin Edwards who in turn hits Rossi. Looks like he'd lost his helmet just before he hit Edwards. Edwards is Incredibly lucky.
My school has a racing team and I've ridden a 125 GP bike. Those 500cc and over scare me.
Not for the faint hearted and don't know if it's in bad taste or not posting this link.

It's a shame

In this day and age it's very rare to lose a top level competitor, but for it to happen twice in 8 days is tragic.

RIP Wheldon & Simoncelli.

Just got in...

...and saw the Beeb's news coverage cut off apparently just before the fatal impact. I like a bit of gallows humour as much as the next man but that hits hard Stimpy. Given your own recent experience I suppose I shouldn't begrudge you a few Dark laughs but..I dunno,I liked Marco and I liked his style. I,m sad he's gone. That's all.

Saw him race several times

At Catalunya, Le Mans and San Marino. A definite contender once he got a factory ride. Seems Marco lost the front end and was trying to save it with his right knee (he was tall enough for this to work) when his bike ran in to the path of Colin's and Vale's.

Surely Rossi will retire after this sickening end to a turgid season. He and Edwards must be in tatters.
