I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert. Those brief few hours are still a highlight of my life. Though blurry from the passage of time, I can still remember Christine McVie playing and singing Songbird illuminated by a spotlight. It was beautiful then and still is now, when I play Rumours. In spite of the familiarity, the album holds up as an absolute classic for me - a true example of an insanely popular, middle of the road record which is also worthy of classic status.
I am sure some older than me will point to earlier incarnations of the band as more worthy of esteem - and I can relate to that, but for the young lad I was then, Fleetwood Mac on stage in 1977 were like Gods - they were beautiful and otherworldly - a vision that for me, time has only made more mythical.

It is a great memory to have
It is a great memory to have - to see a band at the top of their game. I saw the Mac last month and had a great night but would have loved to have seen them in their heyday.
I guess many of us have a pivotal gig that has resonated with us for a long time. I saw Elvis Costello in Dublin in 1989 when I was 14 and I thought he was amazing - a mainly accoustic and solo show except for some performances with some unknown support called Nick Lowe. It was a gig that has cast a long, long shadow on my music collection.
Well I did like the blues band of that name,
having snogged my way through at least a hundred repetitions of Albatross at teenage parties, but having said that, I was a footloose and fancy free traveller in Europe at the time of 'Rumours', and it always takes me back to barreling down from Lausanne to Aosta over the alps from Switzerland, crammed into the back seats of one of the early Porsche 924s. We drove on to Venice and had a whale of a time at the Biennale. Fleetwood Mac (Mark 2) never sounded better.
Well
I'm beyond jealous. Saw them about four years back and it was superb. When they played Dreams I felt like I was hallucinating it was that good. And that was without Christine. God I love the Mac.
I imagine
Princess Anne wasn't at that gig.
hhahahah
that very same night i saw my first punk gig
the clash at manchester's belle vue
blimey
Flipping 'eck!
I was probably at that gig too. I had promoted The Clash in Leeds earlier in the year and was invited over by the promoter. I had stopped writing in my diaries by then so cannot confirm but that is brilliant footage.

Don't remember much about it, to be honest.
