Nothing for the weekend (again)
Posted by phlanth on 10 July 2010 - 3:01pm.
Sorry if I missed the announcement but has Word stopped sending out the weekly email shots? I quite enjoyed them, found some interesting links on there and so on. Second weekend running this has gone missing.
Or is it just me - am I being ignored? As usual. ;)

You're being ignored
Mine arrived on Thursday.
It's all a conspiracy, you know!
It was sent as usual
Check your junk mail. In the meantime, you can read it online at http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/something-for-the-weekend-122
No junk mail folder
So if it's being sent it's not getting through. Could I have dropped off the mailing list somehow?
No
If you can post on the website, you should receive the newsletter - it's the same database. It could be that it's getting junked along the way by an ISP, but there's 'nowt we can do about that.
Enjoyed that physics of football
link-here's an older one by Philip Ball before the Germans got involved in the subject

I thought we all had a meeting...
and phlanth was one of those who we decided to remove from the list :-)
second week running
I am sans SFTW but by modifying the link you gave me last week Fraser, from 121 to 122, I was able to read it online
Hm... massive conspiracy..
..or V***** Media cock up? Let's have a heated debate!
Definitely Virgin Media seems the link
I am having same issue, with all my Word magazine messages being dumped in spam and I use Virgin broadband....
Also Virgin
but it always comes thru no problem here.
Actually, thinking about it - the one time it didn't make it through was when the online version of the magazine was attached for the first time. Do you subscribe (I don't) - maybe it's that extra treat that's causing the bother.
Virgin media
I've had loads of problems with forgotten passwords. You click the forgotten password link, yet it never arrives. Virgin say it's nothing to do with them, but it ends up I can't access some websites.
Well, apologies
It seems when VM migrated my email to google they took it on themselves to filter it for me. Diverted swathes of spam to a web-based folder that I did not know existed. Along with my SFTW mails. And other regular mails that I hadn't missed. See I just used my Outlook Express as usual, thought nothing of it.
After your reply before I even logged on to the web email service to see if it was in the spam folder. I couldn't see a spam folder. No helpful indicator in the margin or at the top with 'spam' written on and the number of mails contained beside it.
So looked into the VM help forums, logged back in to the web email service and eventually found the spam folder hidden from view on one side under '4 more'.
I am currently going through the 380 - odd mails to see what I need to un-spam so I hereby apologise for wrongly accusing you of abandoning me. Unless of course you are in league with Virgin/Google/The Illuminati/shape-sifting lizard aliens.
No worries
And to be fair to Virgin, all ISPs filter spam from your mail, and false positives will always be a part of that.
feck
looks like that the rest of my Saturday night sorted
edit:
thanks for the tip phlanth I didn't know that '4 mores' place existed or what it did, all my SFTWs since 118 were in there
