Notable by their relative scarcity on the Word blog...

Lucky Tiler's picture

...are women and famous people.

Women
Trying to be objective, I reviewed the most recent two pages of Word blog and found:

10 posters with male names
6 posters with gender neutral names
1 poster with a female name

It's a thing I've long taken for granted, but why is this? Is "Intelligent Life on Planet Rock" so predominantly male?

Famous People
Surely, given all the strong opinions expressed and intriguing questions asked, once in a while they must come to the eyes of one of their subjects, who would wish to respond in some way? I'm sure we've all longed for a star to respond to some opinionated blogger, like the movie director in the Woodie Allen movie who steps out from behind a billboard to tell a cinema queue show-off "You know nothing of my work".

Is it 'not done' for stars to mix with the massive at this level? And surely, being 'not done' would be the cue for some to do it.

What restrains them?

Maybe one of my minders will shortly fill me in.

( If true my people will send the furry-visaged soul some begonias ).

To continue the spirit of Blogupmanship

No, I mean Woodie Allen, Woody's lesser known brother, from whom he stole some of his best ideas. Not very imaginative those Allen parents.

It's always the way: you check your comment carefully for what you fear you'll get picked up on - here sexism, or having overlooked the fact that one of Hawkwind's roadies in the 70s posted a comment 2 years ago - and they get you on a typo in a side-track.

Women readers of The WORD...

.. are a minority.

Which is surprising given the number of handsome devils that have graced the cover in the last 12months (!)

For Rock N Roll Read Football

Rock N Roll is still dominated by men just as football is and why assume Fuzzyface is a Mr ?

Well I am actually ,but I am a bit of a feminist but having watched a programme last night on BBC4 about the remarkable changes a womens body goes through when she is pregnant and the fight for survival with a baby is it any wonder that women are less interested in the petty squables surrounding rock and roll ?

As my favourite philosopher Andy Partridge says, the reason maybe women are not as artistically creative as men is that they are too busy creating life, far more important methinks.

As for fame it plays hideous tricks on the brain, interersted to hear Phil Gartside the Bolton chairmen say that he monitors the fans websites and that he takes more notice of the negative stuff than the positive.

I think certain famous people are just as curious about what normal people are saying about them as we would be, others don't give a toss,as for taking part in the forum now that would be fascinating to think that someone famous is participating which famous person ? room for endless specultion.

As for abuse on the forum, the only abuse I have received is for defending Coldplay and that is understandable and I forgive you.

Another Theory on Fame

Maybe to become successful and famous, you need to have a tough enough skin, and a degree of detachment, with the result that - your own example excepted - they don't give a toss what any of us are thinking day-to-day, as long as we keep buying.

(You'll be impressed, fuzzyface, that in my original analysis, you were counted among the "6 posters with gender neutral names" despite the implications of the name.)

Most women I know...

... would back off in alarm and possibly boredom when faced with a large group of bearded men with terrifyingly detailed knowledge of the works of Richard Thompson.

And as a formerly well placed women in music put it, women are "less intellectual" about their musical tastes than men... *runs way, awaits abuse*

Agreed, and it's probably to their credit

In much the same way as when people ask "Why aren't there more women in boxing?"

Also "*runs way, awaits abuse*"

I like that tagline, ganglesprocket. Could it be added automatically to all of my posts?

Andrew Collins

I have noticed that Andrew Collins only seems to contribute to posts that mention him. Suspicions of searching his own name in above box.

Come on Andrew prove me wrong by not replying....
