Not What You Want

You'll have to travel a long way to hear anything as bad as this

Not only

is it bad, it is utterly pointless.
I'll take the London Bach Choir any day, thanks.

....sigh...

remixes... why?

Bejasus!

Forget taking the biscuit, that takes both Mr Peek and Mr Freans to the top of the cliff and drops them both to hell!
Whyowhyowhy do they do this? I am still upset about Valerie (Steve Winwood not the Zutons) and the abomination wreaked upon it. Has any one suffered the Tiny Dancer I heard on the radio recently.
Surely, BTW, there should only be 2 "I"s in "Fairtiliser"?

Retropath2 | 29 February 2008 - 7:53am

Fartisliser?

Surely?

Remixes though, when Soul Wax do it right they're great. On Radio Soul Wax they meld ELP/Basement Jaxx/Peter Gunn into one hot mix (I heard some kids say that) and their mix of Independent Women/Dreadlock Holiday/9 to 5/Eplee is brill.

There's some fab mash ups out there too, the hip hop version of In Rainbows, Rainydayz is great.

I thought it wasn't bad

I'm not into remixing, bit of a luddite when it comes to That Sort Of Thing. However, as these things go, I quite liked it. Jagger's voice right at the front, and sounding great. I think it was my low expectations that did it, actually - like recently watching The Godfather Part 3 for the first time, and expecting Sofia Coppola's much derided performance to be The Worst Ever. In the end, I thought, she wasn't that bad, especially for a non-actress bunged into the role, if the story is to be believed, more out of expediency than nepotism.

Incidentally, can Soulwax now expect to be sued by the Stones' ever vigilant legal team?

Azeem | 29 February 2008 - 9:30am

Look what they've done to my song, Allen

I'm with Azeem on this. Wouldn't want to hear much more of it, but it started the day off nicely. There's a lot of buggering round with old rock tracks these days, like the recent rap version of Terry Reid's 'Seed Of Memory'. I think it probably pleases the originators somewhat.
Sometimes it works well. See if you like what the quaintly-named Wizard's Sleeve team did with a Small Faces track.

Silk purse

Proof positive that you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Chill Pill Time

I actually liked it. And I like alot of what Soulwax do. I would refer you to the Soulwax Remixes Album which would keep any party rockin'.

And if you want to see the point of the remix I would refer you to Oakenfold/Osborne Happy Mondays "Madchester - Rave On (Remixes)" a key track in the Indie/Dance culture, something they did again with U2 "Even Better Than The Real Thing".

And what about Andrew Weatherall turning Primal Screams "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" into "Loaded" from "Screamadelica" one of my all time favourite albums.

Springer Bell | 29 February 2008 - 12:35pm

Fair Enough

Each to their own I suppose, I thought the rejigs of "Even Better Than The Real Thing" were a balls up as well. Mind you I thought this one was pretty good
