Not going to see Midlake.

Lenny Law's picture

I've been looking forward to tonight for far too long. And then I got a call from my wife this afternoon. A lorry had tailended her car whilst she was driving our two year old back from swimming. Car pretty trashed, son fine, wife OK bar whiplash and shock. So I've stayed here to make sure she's OK. And I'm fucked off. Fucked off with the bloke who wasn't looking where he was going, fucked off at my selfishness for even thinking about Midlake when all my attentions should be on my bruised wife, fucked off at the arseing around this will create. And also feeling a bit odd myself. The last time I was this excited about something musical was the day Twelve Stops And Home was released. I was getting ready to listen to it when I got the call which told me my dad had died. I'm giving up on getting all anticipatory about such matters.

At least you're all OK

Shame about the gig, but I'm sure they'll be back.

Sorry Lenny

Can't think of anything wise to say I'm afraid but I feel for you.

Thoughts with you

Lenny. Hope wife and boy are ok.

Blimey.

Glad your family's ok and no-one was seriously hurt.

(It's still absolutely fine to be pissed off about missing the gig. Doesn't mean you're selfish, just means you're a music fan)

New

As above ,glad that your family are ok,Lenny. It would probably have been shite anyway!Have a drink tonight and thank your lucky stars that the plank driving the van didn't hit your wife's car where it could have done some serious damage.

I feel your pain

The GLW and nipper were badly stricken with the vomiting 'flu thing just before Xmas and naturally I stayed indoors to administer broth and cold compresses, this did mean forgoing a trip to the smoke to see the New York Dolls; and yes I felt really caddish even thinking about it. So it goes.
Glad to hear all were OK.

So glad that your wife and son are OK

This is no consolation at all, but the Guardian is giving away five Midlake tracks tomorrow (Sat 30 Jan). Details here:

That's terrible

hope they're all ok. If it's any consolation, I saw them last Friday and I was bored, bored, bored.
I left before the end, and I was really looking forward to seeing them too.

Oh Great

Sounds like Fleet Foxes all over again...

Funnily Enough

My friend went to see Midlake and said it was the same as when he saw Fleet Foxes. Resolutely faithful to the recordings and free of thrills.

But back on topic, sorry to hear about the accident Lenny and I'm glad everyone's (almost) okay.

Sorry Lenny

Fell into the selfish trap....glad the family are ok but sue the bastard for injuries anyway.

It always annoys me that people like that never seem to come off the worst, leaving the innocent law abiding guys to pick up the pieces, both physical and metaphorical.

Im a fan, saw them last time they were over...

took a mate who didnt know them and...
It was embarrassing. If ever the cliche about just putting the album on instead held true...
They were so dull, we left before the end at my insistence.

Doesnt help though does it?

Nah.

And...

Last week I had spent 200 clams on my wifes birthday present - a night at the Royal Opera House watching Sleeping Beauty - champagne, black tie the whole 9. Been lookin forward to it for a month.
Okay, its for her but I was excited meself as I hadnt been out since before xmas, lookin after baby during the week and working at the weekends. Didnt even get out for our anniversary for the second year running as no babysitter and...

Baby wakes up with a cough/cold and wife decides its off. No refund and too late to flog the tickets.
She wont let anyone but me babysit. I agree and so she asks her friend to accompany her. Friend agrees but wife says that taking any money off her is just 'not done'.

So, I pay a hundred sovs for her mate to go out and have a good time with my Mrs.

Kids eh?
Cant live with 'em...

Pass the beer nuts.

Suddenly...

I feel much better! Cheers, Mr Green. Good tale. Let's have some more embittered people. A trouble shared is a source of great amusement to others.

they're playing the

they're playing the williamson tunnels in liverpool tomorrow night - my mate's taking em to the roscoe's head for a knowing swifty beforehand - heard stories that they're humourless vegan types - beyond the wizard's sleeve's re-animation (groan!!) of 'roscoe' was my favourite remix of last year

You want embittered

I'll give you embittered. A slight version of the theme but anyway. One of my twins is one of those kids at school you hated. Any sport he's good at, he's had time at a couple of Premiership acadamies, he's thrown his first 180 at darts (he's 14) but it's cricket, my favourite sport at which he truly excels. He's always been the most natural bowler and was spotted by Surrey at 11. He was invited to play a representative game on a Sunday for Surrey colts the same Sunday we were due to see Muse, My Chemical Romance and Biffy Clyro at Wembley. Being a responsible, resonable father I gave him the choice knowing the cricket would come first, except he didn't, he chose Muse and would not be shifted and his mother was on his side. I had to call the slightly incredulous Surrey coach and guess what they never did ask him again, he skateboards now. Bitter, you don't know bitter. "Knights of Cydonia" was wonderful though.

Interesting story Dave!

I'm staggered to learn that Surrey actually go to the effort of raising bowlers from scratch. I thought they just nicked them off other counties.

Not that I'm bitter about Chris Tremlett or anything.
