*NOT* the antiques roadshow
Posted by Oscar Patterson on 25 May 2010 - 9:53am.
I'm not looking to sell but I am keen to know whether I should be looking after something a little better than I currently am.
I have an old style (black type out of yellow luminous background - the sort you don't see any more) gig poster from 1984, for a gig by The Smiths, and it is signed by all four of them. Is it actually worth anything? Or am I guilty of that age-old crime (know to us all here, I'm sure) of thinking something is worth money when in fact, it just isn't?
I only ask cos it is rolled up at tightly the moment and maybe I shopuld be looking after it better...I bet its worth about a fiver, but still , nice to look at...

It's only worth what people will pay...
And I'd give you 200 quid for it.
Form an orderly queue please
Any bids for a mid-80s Radio 1 mug?
If it contains the dregs of the Hairy Cornflake's tea
and a large splodge of something nasty where he's knocked his pipe out into it, it could be worth as much as 75 British pence.
I'm just wondering if this
I'm just wondering if this is a genuine ask that someone may want to buy it?
My mum broke hers yesterday having had it longer than I've been alive and if it's still available I'd be interested.
I might be sounding really dumb right now, but just wanted to ask, thanks. :]
I think I'll keep hold of it
for reasons of nostalgia. I did do an eBay search once and there was an identical one going for about a quid. I would set up a saved search on eBay so it emails you when one appears.
Having said that, if you do a Google search for 'radio 1 mug', this thread is ranked at number three, so I'm now expecting outrageous cash offers from men in the Middle East and Vegas casinos.
I understand, thank you
I understand, thank you anyway.
$1 o.n.o
I have a vintage eight foor x four foot front cover of FHM featuring "the lovely" Catherina Zeta Jones in the loft. Can't for the life of me remember why...
What about this?
I have a friend who has a football signed by all of the members of ACDC from the Back in Black tour (her father refereed a game they played in)
Most of the signatures are hard to read but Malcolm Young is crystal clear. Does anyone think it's worth anything? It's such an odd piece, they wouldn't be too many of them.
I have an original poster from The Rolling Stones' 1971 UK tour
the one before they buggered off to France. It might be worth something but I'd never sell it as it belonged to my late uncle and it means more to me than any other material object I possess.
It's this one...
I also have one of Lowell George's plectrums, but I have no way of authenticating it.
I'll give you...
£3.78 for the poster and £100,000,000 for the plec.
Life's mysteries
When they were good, it was one night at the Free Trade Hall.
Now they're crap, it'd be a week at Old Trafford.
Neil Young
I have a mint vinyl copy of this. I love it. Record accessed at top not on right hand side. Great insert with lyrics.

Time Fades Away
I've got that too. Paid £3.00 at a record fair about 10 years ago. And On The Beach. And American stars n Bars. And a whole ton of others.
I've also got Joe Strummer's plectrum (from when he played with The Pogues at Glasgow Barrowlands. Again, no way to authenticate it. The roadie pulled it out of the scratchplate on his telecaster, gave it to me then told me to fuck off.
Bit of the Wall
Somewhere in an attic in south Wales is a bit of Floyd's Wall - a remnant from the original live show at Earls Court (circa 80? 81?).
Willing to swap for Lowell's plectrum or a PS3.
What will you bid for this fantastic flexidisc from 1982
featuring the knee-partingly gorgeous MCing skills of Mark Ellen?
I have a signed copy of Faith No More's
"The Real Thing" signed by the classic line up of Mike Patton, Jim Martin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould and Mike Bordin. Form an orderly queue folks.
Oddly enough I also have a signed copy of North by Seamus Heaney. As well as a signed copy of Glasgow Folk singer Matt McGinn's timeless classic "The Two Heided Man."
