Marvellous!
Hmm.
I have perused the video.
I have listened to the music.
Justin Hawkins is a pretty useful axeman. But he sings like someone's feeding his knackers through a mangle. Slowly.
If he'd been doing this in 1982 we'd have been laughing at him.
It's arse, Dave. Arse.
Sorry.
All the Brits talk
this week got me thinking about The Darkness and of course you're right it's arse and that's why I love this song and for 6 months I loved The Darkness. The sheer absurdity of them and their acceptance of it, we need a band like this every know and then to remind us it's only music and it can just be a laugh. I've posted this as much for Cat Deely as the song!! But honestly tell me you don't love this.
Friday Night
was their best song.
I once bonded with a gentleman admirer over The Darkness.
Sadly he, much like The Darkness, turned out to be more entertaining in theory than in practice.
Excellent stuff
catchy songs, and a sense of humour. Made a refreshing change while it lasted.
Even though the chorus is basically Photograph by Def Leppard...
...I still love it.
Great tunes..
..and that was one of the best Xmas songs anyone ever did. Kasabian wouldn't get it.
God Save The (spirit of) Queen
I guess I can see why someone would hate shrill histrionic rock, but I always thought The Darkness weren't unfashionable because they had long hair and played guitars, but because they wrote y'know actual pop songs with actual melodies, albeit with witty (but not joke) lyrics. How many people have done that in recent years?
Nothing wrong with a bit of ridiculousness in music - as this tune written by Justin Hawkins for middle America bothering "Idol" runner up Adam Lambert proves
This wasn't meant
to be The Darkness specific but it has made me wish they could have another crack. Anyone know what they're up to now?
Hot Leg & The Stone Gods
Justin formed Hot Leg - busy in 2009 but not sure what they are up to now. Bit too light and frothy for my liking
Dan opted not to continue under The Darkness name, so they became the Stone Gods - the first CD is not at all bad
Dan and Justin
should read this and see that they both have what the other needs. Those 2 clips just make me want another Darkness album even more!
