No Top Of The Pops Christmas Special - does anyone care?

So the BBC's ongoing campaign to rid the world of Top Of The Pops forever takes another step. Am I just being a nostalgic fool for thinking this is A Bad Thing?
Admittedly they're airing a new set of TOTP2 during the Christmas period, but has the disappearance of TOTP contributed to the decline of the singles market, or is it just a symptom?

Bring back the Pops
Although having read the piece in The Sun better not...I don't watch the box on Christmas day anyway.
STATUS QUO legend FRANCIS ROSSI — whose band release their first festive single, It’s Christmas Time, in December — is not a happy rocker.
He said: “We can’t believe the Christmas Top Of The Pops is not happening this year — it’s a festive fixture.
“It took us 40 years to write a Christmas song then the moment we do the programme gets axed.
Don't bring back the Pops
Sorry, but there's been way too much eulogising about TOTP, both on here before and by the likes of Andy Burnham.
What's No 1? Few people of a certain age will know, and even fewer will care. The charts lost their general cultural relevance years ago, long before Andi Peters appeared on the scene.
If Xmas TOTP was to continue in its past format of all/most of the year's No 1s, Betty Windsor's cosy Christmas fireside chat will be joined on the BBC schedule by the likes of Ne-Yo, Basshunter and Dizzee Rascal. It's not going to work really, is it?

Clearly no-one here cares, but at least Simon Cowell does...

If you can't be bothered to go to the link, Cowell has offered to buy the format from the BBC...
As you were.
That is
so he can guarantee the next X Factor winner gets to number 1 in the face of stiff competition from Geraldine's Christmas single and Status Quo (not).
