Nick Kelly (ex- Fat Lady Sings) - Gestation
You may or may not remember Nick Kelly from early 90s Irish band The Fat Lady Sings. Since then he's gone on to (among other things) release two superb, self financed, solo albums. He's one of those people who is happy keeping a low profile and just doing what he's good at.
Whether you know of him or not, you might be interested in his latest project - Gestation. The idea is that he's made public all the original demos which are going to form his new album in a year or so. In the next nine months, he's playing monthly gigs at Whelans in Dublin where he will be developing these songs, based on feedback he gets to the songs he puts up on his site. To put the original germs of the songs up for all to see must be a hell of a scarey experience for him, but - with the first two gigs having taken place, and some recordings from the gigs been put online - it's a fascinating insight into how a song develops and changes over time. Can't wait to hear the eventual album, and I'm even thinking of jumping on a plane to catch one of the gigs next year!

Well worth watching
Bloody hell, I only just blogged on The Fat Lady Sings last night. Mind, that's not helpful here.
Brilliant songwriter, Arclight remains the best song of its era in Ireland. And both of the solo albums are brilliant. The cast of people helping out looks great too.
Great writer, great voice and a thoroughly likeable chap too.
Thanks for those kind words,
Thanks for those kind words, both of you - really appreciate the interest.
