Posted by robram on 13 January 2010 - 5:03pm.
There's a gig next Thursday (21st) at Brighton Dome, called Way To Blue - The Songs of Nick Drake.
http://www.brightondome.org/events/Way-To-Blue---The-Songs-of-Nick-Drake...
It's curated by Joe Boyd and features the likes of Robyn Hitchcock, Vashti Bunyan, Lisa Hannigan, Green Gartside, Scott Matthews, Teddy & Danny Thompson.
I bought two tickets, but the person who was meant to be coming along has now had to cancel, so I have a spare ticket.
Ticket originally £27.50 - I'll take offers - of course you'll have to sit next to me.
Doors open at 7.15pm
Anyone interested? Message me via my profile.
Cheers
Rob

Green Gartside
Hi Rob,
Unfortunately can't get down there but I remember seeing Green - (Scritti Polltti) playing out side the Tate Gallery one balmy summer evening a couple of years ago. It was a bit of a Susan Boyle moment. I have always liked Scritti but never watched them live. I made my way down on my own to check them out as the FPO had another event on. Green was a little older than when I last saw his pic but it really was a gasp moment when he started to sing. I wasn't sure beforehand if he would be able to cut it live. He totally blew me away he just doen't look like he would sing in that way. I realise it is wrong to assume about people by the way they look but blimey he has the voice of a soul angel. Great band too , I had a word after and complemented a really good young drummer who was in the band. They seemed really humble and chuffed it was a lovely night. I hope you enjoy it.
I'm excited by that...
I was also a peripheral fan of Scritti, but always thought he had a great voice.
In fact, I've seen a lot of 80s stars a long time after their heyday and always been hugely impressed by their voices. The one letdown was, ahem, Paul Young, whose lungs seem to be shot to bits.
Even I can't flog the ticket, I'm hugely excited by the gig anyway.
Paul Young
I played in a band in the eighties and we supported Paul Young in 1983 on the 'No Parlez' tour when he was on top form. I've got to say that he was in superb voice and it was great fun just to hear him let him let rip in his soundchecks let alone the gigs. He had a fantastic voice then.
Oh I loved him in the 80 s
But when I saw him in around 2003 his voice was dire. Quit sad actually because I was really looking forward to him. We left early!
