Nice work if you can get it

'Two And A Half Men' is a 'comedy' show starring Charlie Sheen basically playing Charlie Sheen.
If you haven't seen it or it isn't shown where you are don't worry, your life is all the richer for it.
It is a steaming turd of a show. Deeply unfunny at every turn.
Now I am coming to the real point here. I read a report today that Charlie Sheen is paid $US825,000 per episode. Not per season, per fcking episode.
I'm sorry but this is yet more proof that the world has gone stark raving mad.

I've not seen it

and from reading about the premise on Wikipedia, I don't think I'd like it.

However, it seems you're talking about a show writtten by the guy who invented CSI, in its fifth season that has consistently rated in the top 20 shows with multiple Emmy nominations, and for a lead actor to get $25,000 per episode in a world where the leads in Friends were getting $1,000,000 per episode for Season 10, and the Simpsons actors get $250,000 per episode seems pretty unremarkable to me.

That's $825,000

Dodgy typeface issues.

Hah!

Ok, so it's high, but it's still not especially remarkable for that industry though.

Essentially, your objection seems to be down to personal dislike.

And it's not even close...

To what Alex Rodriguez gets for playing third base for The Yankees. These wages may look obscene at face value, but The Yankees aren't stupid, and neither are CBS. Sheen gets paid that much because he's worth it to the parent company. He's making his bosses a fortune, and he gets rewarded.

Funny TV show

I've watched all of the first three seasons and I like it. I laugh. It's a traditional sitcom (although pretty dirty) so get over it. It isn't pushing back the boundaries of comedy, but then not everything can be a revolution (although it might be pushing the boundaries of American network prime time TV censorship due to the endless sexual references?).

I would recommend watching it first in order to form an opinion, but I think you've already formed an opinion that isn't going to be easily changed.

There is no connection to CSI that I know of.

The CSI connection

is that they share a creator and apparently there have been crossover episodes (sounds a bit odd, to be honest!):

Totally agree ...

this show is very funny. I even bought the first season on DVD when it first came out. Haven't needed to buy further seasons though 'cos it's never off Paramount!

I'm all for the free market

and I wouldn't turn down $825k for a bit of work so I don't blame Charlie Sheen. But the world is a little messed up isn't it.

At least Charlie is providing something for his money

I think a greater example of how our world has gone mad is the obsession with celebrity, whereby failed competitors in reality shows such as Jade Gooddy (to name but one) can earn fortunes.

another fan here

I don't care what they pay him - I think it's very funny. And Elvis Costello's been on it. Actually, I'm not sure that proves anything now I think about it...

However, I do agree with your bigger point that paying entertainers that sort of cash while nurses and po-lice get below inflation pay rises is twisted.

At least you know Charlie will spend the money wisely

Whores and cocaine, what else is there?

It's no worse

It's no worse than the tripe BBC keeps pumping out. There is more money in American TV, and he's a bigger name than a lot of sitcoms start out with. I'm not justifying it, but I'm not at all surprised.
