News we've all been waiting for

Mint's picture

Yes, we've all been waiting patiently for this day, the boys have put their differences aside, acrimony is all but forgotten and the good times are back.

80s white funk meisters Spandau Ballet are back, and ready to get us dancing in the aisles once again, perfectly timed to wipe away the financial blues, "Not just a nostalgic re-run of the old, but a fresh slant on what Spandau Ballet are all about." says the manager! Former label boss says,'But now they are older, fatter, poorer, there's every reason to see if the magic still works."

Who says 'good things come to those who wait'?

Clearly the recession is biting

Sofa sales must be subsiding. And I thought he'd done well for himself.....

Eh?

Apart from the obvious (ie kilts and, erm, gold) what exacty were - sorry - are Spandau Ballet 'all about'?

Ask Robert Elms...

he seems to think that Spandau Ballet are the greatest band since The Beatles...

0
Patrick Crowther | 17 February 2009 - 11:48am

Elms

...and he doesn't like The Beatles.

But I think you knew that.

I won't be queueing for tickets, but...

... credit where it's due, "Only When You Leave" is a cracking tune.

Is Steve Norman

able to play more than 4 notes on the sax now?

Don't you just love it

when these bands reform, and say it's not about the money but all about unfinished business or the notion that it's in the blood and they have to play? At least they should be honest and admit it's all about the money.

I honestly believe that it won't be too long in the distant future that we'll be seeing a Stone Roses or even a Morrissey/Marr reunion

Mid life crisis?

To be fair, there may be a feeling of hankering after lost youth. But its probably the money.

jesus wept

Weren't these bozos at each other's throats in the court room not more than a couple of years ago? Something about Gary Kemp writing all the tunes and hence getting all the money? I think the others lost if I remember correctly.

Reformation was their label

As always, waaay ahead of their time. By the way, what was the "thrill in my hand" from the song True? A ciggie? A gameboy? A glass of tizer? He wasn't talking about his "lad" was he?

It must be about drugs.

I mean, read it, it's obvious. Or is it?

"So true
Funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams
Head over heels, when toe to toe
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
I bought a ticket to the world
But now Ive come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line
When I want the truth to be said
I know this much is true
With a thrill in my head an a pill on my tongue
Dissolve the nerves that have just begun
Listening to marvin all night long
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
Always slipping from my hands
Sands a time of ts own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh I want the truth to be known"

I also notice that the internet lyric site I have used reckons its "a thrill in my head".

Who knows?
Who cares?

Pinch of salt with the old lyric source, Iain

quote:
"Sands a time of ts own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line"

seaside arms??? Even Gary Kemp wouldn't have written something so stupid, surely?

0
Austin | 17 February 2009 - 12:03pm

Indeed!

T'internet is a ropey source at the best of times! However, if it's not seaside arms, what is it?

0
Iainso | 17 February 2009 - 1:58pm

My guess without googling

"and to think that I'm to write the next line"

0
Austin | 17 February 2009 - 7:29pm

I always heard...

"Take your teeth right out to write the next line"

But I'm guessing that's not right.

Unfortunately.

To be fair to them...

I seem to recall that Chant No.1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On) was a good tune.

0
Patrick Crowther | 17 February 2009 - 11:50am

Is it TRUE ?

c'mon massive you're a bit slow. Thought this gag would have gone by now

0
Sour Crout | 17 February 2009 - 11:54am

I'm holding out for the Menswear reunion

Please Lord, make it happen.

Ahh_Bisto | 17 February 2009 - 12:38pm

Funnily enough...

...if you talk to men of a certain age they'll admit to quite liking Spandau, whereas Duran Duran might still get them frothing at the mouth with hate.

Might have something to do with a certain Mr Weller saying he liked Chant No1.

Always had a liking for them myself but that was more to do with the fact that the Kemps went to my school. Local heroes and all of that!

I had a funny feeling

this might happen....call it my Instinction.
