News from Chillout Corner

Richie B's picture

This was released the other day:

It's a bit obscure, melding saxophone and Armenian early music and won't be to everyone's taste I know, but really these guys produce music that makes the hair stand up on your neck. The above link is a podcast to promote the new album. Click the link below to hear one of the tracks:

And this is the follow-up

Or the follow up of the follow up if you include Mnemosmyne

Biblical chill

This is my favourite bit of Garbarek:

Then I usually follow up by listening to this, "Patripassian" by Current 93, with Nick Cave. It's possibly the gloomiest thing Nick Cave has ever done (and obviously that's saying something) but it manages to stir my atheist soul:

Nice one(s)

This is one of my favourite pieces of music - Keith Jarrett with JG on sax. It is wonderful the way the instruments work around each other but not in a tightly written and arranged way - they just know exactly where each other is going and go there too. I love the way Jarrett's piano lifts off at 3.20 for example.

Absolutely love them

Saw them live at St Paul's Cathedral - they did a fair bit of the 'Mnemosyne' repertoire - it was magical. They finished with an 'Agnus Dei', which fades on the album - they simply walked slowly in a line, still playing/singing, out of the performing area so the music gradually receded out of earshot.

Great to see some other Garbarek posted, but the Hilliards are pretty amazing on their own too...
