It's three days away and I would love you lovely people to suggest a New York inspired playlist for me to play as I pack my case and get very, very excited.

Well....

...as one of the blog's pop correspondents, how could I not suggest this?

(Jay-Z - Empire State Of Mind)

Have a great time, Jim. I'm envious: I love NYC and haven't been for 7 years.

Or for something a bit more upbeat!

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a cheesy musical.

Nothing cheesy

about On The Town

It's just bloody great and always puts a smile on my face.

I have no idea how to do the

Youtube stuff but did one of these for myself last year and lent it to my work colleague when she and her teenage family went not long ago.

Needless to say, as I got some of the above on the CD, the teenagers were not altogether impressed, so I'm claiming a victory.

Mum and Dad however loved
December in New York - Thea Gilmore. Quite right too, it's a belter.

Also, NYC - Interpol and New York City by Steve Earle (with lyrics inspired by Paradise City, by the sounds of it) are surely worthy of mention.

December in New York

I was just about to chip in with this one; it's one of my top 10 Thea tracks. When I saw her at The Bloomsbury a couple of years ago she played it at my request as the first encore, and I have rarely been so thrilled. Here she is playing it elsewhere.

(Bobness11, all you have to do for Youtube vids is copy the url into your post)
