Very excited

The downside is that Elton bloody John's going to be on the album. Oh well, keep an open mind and all that...

I don't mind...

...Elton John being on it, but I was a bit downhearted when I heard Stephen Fry would be. Is there ANYWHERE one can go to escape the man?

Jesus CHRIST.

Not that I'm a huge Kate Bush fan, but Stephen chuffing Fry? I used to be an enormous fanboi of his, ever since Fry and Laurie - basically my entire childhood onward - but I'm absolutely sick of the sight and sound of him. If that's how I feel, God help the rest of you.

Same for me...

...I still think he's great, in a way, and loved Fry & Laurie, but, like you, I am sick of the sight and sound of him, and avoid at all costs nowadays.

Know what you mean, and yet...

I hope your understandable Fryxhaustion hasn't prevented you from watching his current series about the history of language, as it's really very good: informative, interesting and well-presented. Obviously language is a particular passion of his, and he's a good choice to present this programme.

Having said that, I have yet to reach saturation point with Mr Fry. And I've even read and enjoyed all four of his novels and one collection of columns (Paperweight); and his recent autobiography is nearing the top of my to-read list. There is clearly no hope for me...

His show on swearing

last night was fucking great.

Watched it on your say-so, DFB.

It was pretty good. Brian Blessed's not necessarily an easy chap to like, is he?

That said, Armando Iannucci more than made up for Beard Boy's excesses. I think, by contrast, AI might be just about the most likeable man in comedy. Incredibly bright, but wears it lightly.

Crikey. Hope Elton's not going to Sing

Whatis it with Kate and her celerity cameos? Who else is on it? SuBo? Jedward? David Mitchell?

If it's not too late

Bloody Reg Dwight?

Sounds like a Supertramp b-side.

God if only it was

There was me, hoping for some odd, dark 'Ninth Wave' style concept album (or at least some wonky splendour like Aerial's Sky of Honey)

The cover looks odd and bit disturbing, the titles are intriguing and a bit claustrophobic and she proved on the reworked 'Lily' on Director's Cut that mad-aunty Kate is still alive and squawking.

But Elton John - pained memories of the awful Prince/Lenny Henry track or the bland Eric Clapton one from Red Shoes or her frankly terrible cover of Candle in the Wind come flooding back.

Say it ain't so, Kate...

Hilton John

not Elton John is who she should have asked:

It's alright for you lot...

but we only get S Fry sporadically here when one of the TV networks deigns to show the occasional QI, so he's still a bit of a novelty. The man himself is also in Wellington at the moment I'm told, but haven't seen him despite the miniscule size of our fair capital.

PhilOBrien | 5 October 2011 - 4:29pm

Is he in Wellington because...

...he's in the forthcoming Hobbit film(s)? Or have I imagined that...?

0
Colin H | 5 October 2011 - 4:44pm

Yep

Apparently so. To be honest, we're all a bit over the LOTR / Hobbit thing. I'm no rugby fan, but the current World Cup is at least saving us from headlines like "Orlando Bloom Seen Walking Along Footpath" etc.

PhilOBrien | 5 October 2011 - 4:51pm

Who's he playing ?

Please say it's a Hobbit.

I like it.

Not an obvious single, is it?

Guitar riff is very Lindsey Buckingham (actually Andy Fairweather-Low).

The chorus harmonies remind me of Cameo.

Like it. A lot

Not very 'Kate' though, is it?

But that's probably a good thing.
