Special "From Our Own Correspondent" version of the podcast in which David Hepworth hears from Kate Mossman, freshly returned from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and Hugh Phillimore of Cornbury explains what it is involved in running a festival in the Cotswolds and tries to interest us in a yurt while Mark Ellen phones in to tell the story of his strange encounter with Jonathan Richman.

All I can say. . .

is that the BBC are prannocks of unprecedented prannocitude. For crying out loud, why is Mr H not on the bloody radio?

But if he were...

...would that mean he wouldn't be doing the podcasts and writing for the magazine?

You do have a point though, I'd certainly listen. Maybe he could do 6Music weekdays 10am-1pm?

When it got to about 4 o'clock...

...I assumed that the WORD massive had abandoned all thought of putting together a podcast and had decamped to Highbury Fields to toss around an inflatable globe in a recreation of the video for She's So Beautiful by Cliff Richard.

Instead it appears that poor old David Hepworth arrived at the office to be greeted by a selection of post-it notes that read: "Gone diving in the Maldives. Be a dear and write the June issue of WORD" and "Gone to N'awlins to listen to Zydeco and drink mango daiquiris."

Anyway I thought the 30 second musical intervals added greatly, as did the Mark Ellen fade-out at the end which creates the impression that, somewhere underwater in the Maldives, he is continuing the same anecdote in front of an audience of tropical fish.

Pronunciation of 'bourbon'

The other night I was at a gig where an extremely faithful and rather fine Tom Waits cover was aired by a band who had just performed the same service on a Howlin' Wolf song. I overheard a DJ and TV presenter who shall remain nameless, as he went up to the singer and told him how much he'd enjoyed it, with the words: "You can never have enough of Jockey Full of Bawbun"...

iTunes

Anyone know why this week's edition isn't on the shelves of the iTunes music store yet?

iTunes

I downloaded mine yesterday. Very odd.

The chunks of music

...really were superb. Bit of Longhair is always welcome and I think I have just been convinced to buy that Isobel Campbell/ Mark Lanegan album on the strength of that 30" alone

F*ck me

Literally just finished listening to this, with the comment about Mark's lawnmower noise - and someone started very loudly mowing the grass right outside the office window. A rare event. There must be a word for it. (Coincidence, probably).
Superb listening.

A refreshing take...

... on the PodCast.

Randy Newman, Professor Longhair learning a new word (yurt!) and a Jonathan Richman story.

All very enjoyable.
