That's exactly what I was thinking! I think some mid 80s version of King Crimson had a bald fella sporting one. I seem to recall a few gags in Smash Hits about said stick.

It was a sort of multi-stringed thingy designed by a bloke called Emmet Chapman. Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo was the poster-boy for it. It sort of died a death. Quietly. And I see this thingy going the same way.
