New Beard just arrived on the doorstep

Bit of a left-field choice, chaps - wouldn't have guessed it.

At a distance, I thought it was a mid-70s Billy Connolly!

Go on...

give us another clue...

Retro Man | 10 November 2008 - 11:10am

Robert Plant?

Robert Plant?

Ben Milne | 10 November 2008 - 11:12am

Is it

Catweazle?

Southern River | 10 November 2008 - 11:19am

The drummer from

ZZ Top?

Niks | 10 November 2008 - 11:20am

That prat with the purple beard

who was helping out with the Rock Camp thingy that Rob Fitzpatrick went on?

Retro Man | 10 November 2008 - 11:31am

Roy Wood

Go on!

collibosher | 10 November 2008 - 11:48am

It's...

...somebody I've never seen bearded before.

Seamus | 10 November 2008 - 12:38pm

Haha I've just seen it

...who'da thunk it. Still, it's a pretty beardmungous issue all told.

Joe Muggs | 10 November 2008 - 1:01pm

It's..

It's Annie Lennox, isn't it?

Indus | 10 November 2008 - 1:58pm

Is it the guv'nor

Rolf Harris?

DogFacedBoy | 10 November 2008 - 12:55pm

It's Bom Iver

with an 'Album Of The Year' caption just below the beard, isn't it?

phil spector | 10 November 2008 - 3:35pm

Bon Iver

even. Damn those fat fingers.

phil spector | 10 November 2008 - 3:34pm

I hope not

I have listened to that album a couple of times but I really have to struggle to stay awake until the end.

Niks | 10 November 2008 - 4:22pm

It's Official. I love The Word

Beardie Monthly has arrived! Santa's on the cover...

PLUS

They have a special feature on my favourite musical genre.

A clue: rearrange these letters... G-O-R-P

Beany | 10 November 2008 - 4:25pm

Please say its not true

Anyone seen that Yes (Directors Cut) currently getting shown on some rock channel on Sky.

I decided in the spirit of things to give the prog monsters a chance. Dear God. What a load of dreary unmitigated tosh. Clue for you too Beany, rearrange these letters T-S-I-H.

Nothing personal though I just couldn't believe anyone could listen to it. And what was worse they didn't even include the only track I actually liked "Owner of a lonely Hear".

Total waste of my time. Now I'm off to try Genesis.

Springer Bell | 10 November 2008 - 5:58pm

I've seen all good people

learn to love Yes. Keep trying; start with 'The Yes Album'.

If that fails to amuse you, keep going past Genesis until you reach safer territory.

Vulpes Vulpes | 10 November 2008 - 6:04pm

Bill Bailey?

Rick Wakeman?

Retro Man | 10 November 2008 - 4:42pm
Nicodemus | 10 November 2008 - 4:58pm

Nope

But he does have sunglasses

Beany | 10 November 2008 - 5:14pm

God, don't tell me it's...

... P**l C*****s ! ! !

Nicodemus | 10 November 2008 - 5:34pm

Holy Shit!

It is, it's Gordon Freeman!

Vulpes Vulpes | 10 November 2008 - 5:56pm

To boldly beard where no beard has grown before...

Back home and out of my misery! Brilliant, would never have guessed that although it does seem that people are getting bearded up in the hope of a Word cover!

Retro Man | 10 November 2008 - 6:52pm

My thoughts entirely

The lengths some people go to get their fizzog on the cover of Th'Wurd. Good to see Robyn Hitchcock has principles. Oh, and KT Tunstall. But if she would don a false beard she could be an assured future cover star.

Beany | 10 November 2008 - 10:20pm

Would anyone like to whisper who it is?

I promise I won't tell.

Springer Bell | 10 November 2008 - 7:02pm

Not what I expected now I see it

after reading above. Best known as purveyor of a musical form far removed from prog but I bet he likes a bit of that rather arcane style - especially the more cool foreign stuff. A welcome face to see in fact.

Sven | 10 November 2008 - 7:17pm

Jonny Rotten?

Cliff Richard?
Noddy Holder? (please)

dannyboy3000 | 10 November 2008 - 9:38pm

Blooper Alert

RE: Steve Hackett. It's "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight". Carry on everyone, nothing to see here...

skirky | 10 November 2008 - 7:50pm

I thought..

..he was dead.

Niks | 10 November 2008 - 9:12pm

Where's mine?

I subscribed this month and it hasn't arrived yet! Get down the post office Hepworth, or the direct debit gets cancelled

stimpy | 10 November 2008 - 9:24pm

I didn't know Scouting for Girls

had it in them to grow beards.

dannyboy3000 | 10 November 2008 - 9:36pm

I didn't know

The cover star could grow a proper beard. He always looked like a bumfluff type to me. They're deffo growing them to get on the cover, Retro Man. Apparently, Dido hasn't shaved for weeks.

Graham Johns | 10 November 2008 - 11:19pm

Give me the seventies

Beards, Prog, what´s next Kaftans, Sandals, Ford Cortinas ?

On The Fence | 11 November 2008 - 7:32am

aw come on!

Who is it? I live in belgium and my copy has to go to New Zealand first! I'm not going to see it until at least the 20th.

Jon Whitney | 11 November 2008 - 12:02pm

Albarn doesn't suit a beard....

But then, he never had a thirst for knowledge

John Waite | 11 November 2008 - 12:14pm

Ahhh, Mr J.C. ...

... of Sheffield, I presume?

Nicodemus | 11 November 2008 - 12:22pm

Good choice

Nice to see the Word team have a sense of humour - keep up the beard work!

ronne | 11 November 2008 - 1:05pm

How many beards are there?

Julian Cope has a good one. But I think the next (if there are any) female cover star HAS to wear a comedy beard.

Jim Thomas | 11 November 2008 - 4:58pm

Surely the next issue must be

Santa..?

New strapline:

"The Word - Not for Pogonophobes"

Fraser M | 11 November 2008 - 7:39pm

Errr...

Gary Numan?

Patrick Crowther | 11 November 2008 - 8:35pm

Frozen Beards

I'm assuming it's Jarvis C (?)... (see page 7 of
http://www.nerc.ac.uk/publications/planetearth/2008/autumn/aut08-news.pd...).

This hot news (no pun) was also featured in his interview in the free Virgin Trains mag-though my eyes were rather drawn by their choice of cover star, one Kristin Scott Thomas ...

NickW | 12 November 2008 - 4:17pm

cover suggestion

after jarvis the december edition would appear to be ripe for joe cocker -got a beard hasn't he

tonyhunter | 13 November 2008 - 11:18am

Or even

Tom Cruise. He's got one too I believe. ahem!

Springer Bell | 13 November 2008 - 11:30am
