New baby, new mix tape!

Folks,

The Boydell family has Just taken delivery of baby number 5 (released on all formats on Feb 15th) and we're going to be calling him ARTHUR.

Now, being an old music fan - can you wonderful group members suggest tracks with an ARTHUR, or Feb 15th, theme suitable for a celebratory birthday mix tape?

I say mix tape - of course we now should regard them as a mix mp3 hard disk backup!

Yours,

Tony Boydell

Congratulations, I can't

Congratulations, I can't think of any sorry. Apart from the theme from MInder as it reminds me of Arthur Daley! You could however include songs that were number one on February 15th etc.

and Rick Wakeman to start with. He won't thank you for it...

Kinks Rock Opera?

As I recall, predating Tommy?

Retropath2 | 17 February 2008 - 4:20pm

Kinks

There's a Kinks song isn't there called Arthur? then there's Arthur's Theme - Christopher Cross, Bob Dylan - Arthur Mcbride, Arthur Nix by Jupiter Sunrise, and there's a symphonic Beatles album by Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops!

Twangothan | 17 February 2008 - 4:25pm

Here's a few...

Arthur- Rick Wakeman (suitably pompous start to a compilation, I guess!! Those albums of his are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine)

Uncle Arthur- David Bowie (very silly track from that Deram debut album)

For God's sake

Don't put a burning brazier anywhere near him.

David Hepworth | 17 February 2008 - 4:54pm

Songwriter and singer

How about Arthur Alexander? Wrote Anna (Go To Him), You Better Move On and Go Home Girl so that brings in the Beatles, The Stones and Ry Cooder. And Art(hur) Garfunkel? Brings in all the Simon and Garfunkel material. Seems like a reasonable start in life to me!

Feb 15 links

Bob Harris' Rock Dates book offers the following for Feb 15. Birthday of Brian Holland (so lots of Motown), Mick Avory of the Kinks (note link to other posts about Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire), Melissa Manchester, Ali Campbell (so some of their own early classics as well as selected covers) and Mikey Craig of Culture Club, should that be your bent.

Love

Now I can't stop background processing on this! How could I forget Arthur Lee? Means you can include the whole of Love's Forever Changes, or the more recent live versions, or material from other albums. This should be a good mix! Will you post a list when you've done? I'd like to follow this through.

Baptism of fire

Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire.

Also on the subject of 15 Feb, on that day in 1962 Duke of Earl by Gene Chandler was number 1 - looked it up. Not bad.

All the best.

ARTHUR

There was a band in Brighton called Arthur back in the mid.nineties. I remember because this was my dog's name.Think they might have had a single out.
How about the great Arthur Alexander a big influence on the Beatles. "You'd better move on" "Shot of Rythmn and Blues" "Anna" etc Oops already mentioned sorry

"Arthur's Farm" by Half Man Half Biscuit

Not their best work. A bizarre song about Arthur Askey and Douglas Bader.

Nick White | 17 February 2008 - 8:15pm

Your mother was an 'amster

Much better than Rick Wakeman's Arthurian efforts, what about the soundtrack to this?

In case you're wondering, this is the Lego version.

"Arthur's Theme (Best That

"Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)"
Written by Burt Bacharach, Christopher Cross, Carole Bayer Sager and Peter Allen
Performed by Christopher Cross

"You're The One That I Want"

Arthur Mullard & Hylda Baker.

Plus, with only minimal cheating, you've also got Arthur Garfunkel, Arthur Tatum, Arthur Shaw and his Band....

Archie Valparaiso | 18 February 2008 - 8:28am

Basshunter

Now You're Gone by Basshunter was no. 1 on the day he was born. You'll be wanting that on there won't you...?

David Ellcock | 18 February 2008 - 12:08pm

Do you know what he did

Do you know what he did before becoming a chart topping sensation?

Look it up...we don't want that sordid little roustabout setting the precedent for little baby Arthur.

Liam Hatchet | 20 February 2008 - 4:31pm

I really can't be bothered!

My suggestion was not ENTIRELY serious anyway.

David Ellcock | 20 February 2008 - 6:39pm

ackin' el' cock!

ackin' el' cock!

Liam Hatchet | 20 February 2008 - 7:25pm

Arthur Askey!

Congrats on your new arrival Tony! Now how about music hall stalwart Arthur Askey? His "Hello Playmates" EP is one of my earliest musical memories and includes a song about knitting and another in which he imagines what it's like to be a buzzy bee. Those were the days!

Stephen G | 19 February 2008 - 11:04am

Arthur

What abour 'Arthur Sixpence' by Tommy Steele?

andy gallant | 20 February 2008 - 10:48am

Stretching the concept...

'(I Don't Want To Go To)Art School' by the Leyton Buzzards.

And although it's got no special connection to your baby specifically, the prettiest baby related tune I can think of is Tim Hardin's 'Baby Close It's Eyes'. Hunt it down, it's ace.
