There is a guy on Ebay selling off his 8-Track collection...he's got stuff I never knew existed in the format.Something about 8-tracks that brings back many happy memories of my initial music education...

...Or this one..It's not my sale..;-) I've been looking for an 8-track of Tago-Mago by CAN for years but I don't think it exists.

I hope the sale goes well for you,
er, I mean 'the guy' ;-)
I love the fact
that there are 6 record label logo's on that Jade Warrior thing. Phillips, Mercury, Vertigo, Fontana, Limelight and one I can't read. What's that all about?
Did Tago Mago really come out on 8-Track?
I assume
that's just a generic shell used for all Phonogram 8 track titles and the paper label for the specific album was applied later.
So that plastic shell could be used for any 8 track title on any of Phonogram's family of labels.
In this case it was Vertigo, but Phillips, Smash, Mercury, Fontana, Limelight etc also came under the Phonogram corporate umbrella.
Do I hear you say that's too much information? ;-)
Never seen Tago Mago
Closest I've seen is this and it must be rare...I would probably pay 50 bucks or so for this...just as a display piece :-)

Despite
their better sound quality (quarter-inch tape running at 3.75 ips - double that of cassettes on both counts) 8-tracks had one fatal flaw, they often switched tracks mid-song. Most disconcerting if it happened in the middle of a guitar solo or something like that.
Also, I don't think it was possible to rewind them. You just had to keep jumping tracks on the endless loop until reaching the desired spot.
I was surprised to read on Wiki that 8-tracks were still on general sale as late as 1982, with some record clubs offering them up to 1988.
As with most formats, some of the very last titles sold only a handful of copies and are now very collectable.
Sex Pistols
I've heard that "Never Mind The Bollocks" is pretty rare on 8-Track and people have paid up to $100.00 for it...Something to keep in mind at some of those charity shops or flea markets.
