Neil Young Archives Vol 2
Neil is apparently preparing the release of the second set of archives which on past form means it should be out around 2020.
This set is going to include 4 previously unreleased albums. The studio sets of Homegrown; Chrome Dreams; Oceanside-Countryside and a live album titled Odeon Budokan.
Apparently they will first be released on vinyl, as this was the form they were meant to be released in, which is a nice concession to those of us who haven't invested in Blu-Ray, but still have a turntable. On the other hand what price will they retail at? £20 or more?

I've heard of the first two albums (I even have the Rust Edition bootleg of Chrome Dreams), but I've never heard of Oceanside-Countryside before. It doesn't get a mention in Jimmy McDonough's Shakey biography. Does anyone have any information on that one?

Anyone who bought Vol 1
How many times have you been listening to it? I consider myself to be a major fan, but sort of realised I would probably just buy it, hold it, think "cool, finally" and then out it on the shelf more than actually listen to it.
But I have bought the concerts released as teasers (or whatever they are supposed to be) and listen to them regularly, Massey Hall being a particual favourite.
When it comes to the price, it IS quite an investment.
It's all on spotify
if you just want to hear the tracks
Listened to it lots
I have spent the year since Vol 1 was released periodically listening to the set, dipping in and out of the various stages. What I found particularly interesting and gratifying was firstly the sound and secondly the timeline feature on the blu-ray.
There is an argument that the whole thing is an overpriced greatest hits set. I can see that but nobody made me buy it. The galling thing from a fans point of view is the way the accompanying albums covering the period of the set have been released initially online then on CD and finally vinyl with some quality control problems with the latter releases. As I said though nobody made me shell out. The presentation is spot on with the vinyl being given pleasingly heavy sleeves and accompanying inserts just as it was way back when. The battered releases from my teenage years pale in comparison.
Same as Vol 1
I'll get the individual ones that I like the look of, I'll cue the whole lot up on Spotify and be grateful that I don't need to buy either it or a Blu-Ray player.
TTN
I was really hoping there would be film of the Tonight's The Night concerts, apparently some was taken but is now lost. I have an almost unlistenable (quality of tape that is)cassette of the Manchester gig, it sounds incredible, so I hope that there will at least be some audio of the tour in the set.
It's been a quiet day in Greendale
Except to say that there is now a graphic novel of the album:

I've said elsewhere that I really like the Greendale album, although I doubt if I'm going to get this book.
Oceanside / Countryside
I'm currently re-reading "Shakey" (having first read it around 2004) and one of the notes may hold the key to what this is: It mentions that there was an early mix of 'Comes A Time' (solo/acoustic, before everything else was added on) where Side A was labelled "Oceanside" and Side B "Countryside". I don't know if it's quite the same tracklisting, as it reads like the two Crazy Horse songs were added to the running order later.
(It's at the bottom of page 515 in my paperback copy).
