Neil Young and his love for the CD format

The latest twist in the tale of Neil Young's permanently rumoured Archives project is that he's refusing to release it on compact disc. Is this the beginning of the future, or is Neil Young just doing what he does best and being a difficult old bugger?

From Billboard yesterday.

Archives Be Damned

Between the ABD 5 CD set and 10 CD Perfect Echo set, which have been available around the net for quite a few years, there's no need to wait for Neil to get off his arse and release Archives. Unless of course you really NEED the Blu-Ray or DVD set.

My prediction of when

the archives will appear in stores - 2011.

For fun, what Neil ought to do is

get the stuff pressed up on a single set of discs, destroy the masters and then bury the buggers somewhere in the desert, perhaps around Barstow.

Endless speculation for years to come.

Did he really do it? Didn't he really keep them at home? Where exactly are they? Have they already been found? Were they all ruined by run-off from a freak storm? Have the Branch Davidians dug them up and stashed them? Are they really buried at Roswell?
