Nat Lofthouse
Posted by ranger on 16 January 2011 - 11:17am.
Nat Lofthouse, one club man, England international, has died aged 85.
In order to put the achievement of winning 33 caps in the 50s into some sort of perspective might it not be a good idea to retrospectively award 6 or 7 caps per appearance?
In 1953 or 1956, you weren't given a cap (and, remember only 11 would get one) for applying your foundation evenly or eating your Rice Krispies without spilling any down your front!
Nat, you may not have earned million pounds for sitting on a bench, but you played and lived in the best era by far.
RIP

God bless you Nat
A true legend.
He probably ended up in the net himself more often than the ball.
A real gent too
Also former miner, recipient of OBE and an inaugural inductee into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Wonder what his thoughts were on that other Boltonian, El-Hadji Ousseynou Diouf *
Formerly of Sochaux, Rennes, Lens, Liverpool, Wanderers, Sunderland and now Blackburn Rovers, El has had his fair share of incidents; spitting at fans and players, numerous motoring offences, domestic violence, racial abuse and most recently taunting a QPR player who had just suffered a broken leg. Cannot see him being invited to be coach, chief scout, caretaker manager, executive manager and president when he retires.
* still living in Bolton, according to police when called out to report of domestic disturbance.
Oh shit
I've supported Bolton since I was a kid. The man is a legend and, by all accounts, a lovely bloke.
Also the recipient
of one of the greatest sporting nicknames ever - "The Lion Of Vienna"
Named after a pub
That was around the corner from my first house. No, wait a minute..not quite...right..
