Names of artists that make you want to hear them
Further to recent thread on names that would put you off a band/artist before hearing their music ......
Which artists have you heard of, but never knowingly heard their music, are you tempted, by their name alone (not reviews), to explore further? That can be to buy/ download some material, read up on them or even make a mental note to do so some time in the future.
I dont mean artist whose music you like and you also like there name. The name must come first.
I'll start:
-Happy Traum (Love that name)
-Lift to Experience (I know the chap features in the new M**o but they've been on my hit list for ages now)
-The Mummers
-The Ozark Mountain Daredevils
If this thread takes off a by-product of the usual amusement would be that some worthy recommendations are offered.

I Dream In Colour
I like the name and quite like the band from what little I have heard on their facebook page
The Mummers
Yep, here is again, banging on about the Mummers again. Still, ask and ye shall receive.
I've never heard any othe other acts.
Not that enticing
It can't be that enticing a name for me, I downloaded the free Mummers album from the Guardian a few weeks ago and I haven't got round to listening to it yet.... it may be because I fear I won't like it... I'm assuming it's a bit hippy dippy folk with Cocteau Twins style breathy vocals. Probably completely wrong. They shouldn't have picked my least favourite XTC album to name themselves after!
Arse Full of Chips
.
is such a great name
that I had to Google them, then listened to 4 of their songs. Isn't the internet bloody great!
The Not Sensibles
The Colorblind James Experience
I, Ludicrous
Jegsy Dodd And the Sons Of Harry Cross
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness ...
... possibly the best band name ever.
Close contenders:
Gay Bikers on Acid
Pop Will Eat Itself (I've honestly never heard them)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Pop Will.......
They dont quite fit into the classic rock cannon, but i think its time you heard some PWEI. Just download the hilarious James Brown Chronocaling "Not now James, we're busy" track.....i defy you to be moved in some way. Parental Advisory sticker, so you might want to cover young ears!
Or rather, i defy you NOT to
Or rather, i defy you NOT to be moved in some way...
The Sex Beatles
Actually I don't want to hear them. They can't be as funny as their name.
Jackie Blue
I always wanted to hear that song by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and when I did it didn't really live up to my own hype. Nice though.
I did want to hear and have subsequently heard:
The June Brides
Brooklyn Bridge
Three Dog Night
Vanity Fare
Wadsworth Mansion
Crispy Ambulance
Sly & The Family Stone
Tangerine Dream
Derek
Throbbing Gristle
Tindersticks
The Wallflowers
Strawberry Alarm Clock
The Lemon Kittens
I was just going to say
I love Jackie Blue, the only track I have by them on a single. I saw them on the Earl Grey Thistle Pest...and here is the clip, as if by magic.
One of my favourites
is "Rockin' Jimmy And The Brothers Of The Night". Rockin' Jimmy is a bespectacled, bald, ordinary looking bloke and quite unlike the sound he makes, which is good old down-to-earth rock'n'roll.
...which reminds me of...
Rockin' Sidney!
Who says accordians aren't cool?
Violet
Indiana.
The Secret Sisters
sound intriguing, by definition.
I'm still waiting.
When I hear that The Top-Heavy Blondes Who Like Matthew Sweet And Teenage Fanclub And Wear No Clothes And All Look Like Fiona Bruce band put out their new CD I think I might have a listen.
Atomic Bitchwax
Never heard a note and never will but I'm glad they exist.
Can't remember the exact name
I think Mark Ellen mentioned them somewhere. It's something like "It's Jo and Danny's the Jo and Danny Band featuring Jo and Danny." Made me laugh then, still makes me laugh. Are they any good? I've no idea.
I think
(though this is off the top of my head) that you're getting confused with two different bands.
There's a band called, "It's Jo and Danny" and another called (something like) "Tim and Sam's The Tim and Sam Band with Tim and Sam"
