Proper drum kit, that...

Forget all that double bass drum nonsense... simple is the way to go.

My old drum teacher would have something to say about

her sticking technique though :-)

I might be a girl

But that is just so much more impresssive than a walk-in wardrobe full of shoes.
Your niece playing the drums just adds to the all round greatness of the wall of sound.
Marvellous.

Gorgeous photo...

detached house presumably?!?

doubleyoubee | 13 January 2011 - 10:46am

Have an up...

That would make a brilliant album cover

Perfect juxtaposition

Future Mo Tucker vs. Unfeasibly Large Wall of Vinyl (I bet she wins). Beautiful :)

She looks like a mini Kurt

She looks like a mini Kurt Cobain playing drums!

musicjohn73 | 13 January 2011 - 1:54pm

I trust

That the albums are in alphabetical order.

0
Baz | 13 January 2011 - 1:58pm

That's my question, too

Being a bit of an organizational freak myself, I want to know how the albums are organized. By genre? Alphabetically? By era?

Why do I care about such things? I have no idea.

Sod Nick Cave

That was my favourite rhyme right there Lott.

That's what I call a 'Wall Of Sound'

I bet it sounds great at 5.30 in the morning!

Baskerville Old Face | 13 January 2011 - 2:14pm

Utterly

Wonderful.

I'm confused

by the dimensions of that room. Obviously 12" is a foot. There are four rows of albums plus maybe 1" gap extra per row that's 4'4".
Then 2 rows of 7" making an extra 1'2" then add maybe 4" for the shelves and that makes 5'10".
Is the room really only that high?

Yours

Bored at work.

The house is on a hill

and only the garage (now converted to that room) is on the ground floor - and the records are in a kind of alcove that is under the stairs I think.

I'm 6'4 and can stand up no problem

You may now carry on with work Jimmyshoes....

Just out of interest

How do you go about posting a pic on the blog? Can't find the info anywhere

What I want to know is.....

....how come the picture on the left has such strong appeal to the soul while the one on the right is just a load of stuff?

without getting to

Andrew Graham-Dixon maybe it's because although very similar vinyl sleeves aren't all the same and the rythmn and texture of the spines is appealing, the glimpses of colour from favourite lp is eye catching they make apleasing random pattern of colour. Also either by luck or design record sizes are an appealing shape/size 12" (nurse the screens) feel right in your hand etc.
The crystal boxes of Cd's are however ill named because they rarely sparkle and look sort flat and dull stacked up.
Anway next on BBC4 the secret life of sheds is narrated by Dervla kirwan....

Dervla Kirwan

She could read out the telephone directory and I'd watch it.

Richie B | 13 January 2011 - 5:43pm

Maybe a cute child

or a small kitten in the picture would help?

0
toiras34 | 13 January 2011 - 7:45pm

It's the sweeping grandeur of the record sleeves...

...that were lovingly designed to be appreciated, caressed, read and kept in serried alphabetical ranks forever.

As opposed to the temporary plastic tat of your average CD case, with notes that need a magnifying glass.

Albums covers slip in and out of a shelf easily, whereas a CD case has to be grasped and wrestled with (and comes apart in your hands).

Baskerville Old Face | 13 January 2011 - 4:28pm

Maybe

The Drums might be recording a new album as we speak.....?
Copyright to Latenite of course

Jayhawk | 13 January 2011 - 5:20pm

I'm quite keen on this stuff

I like the way it's different shapes and sizes to accommodate books, cd's and records etc. Works out quite pricey though.

There's loads of their customers' photos here :- http://www.cubit-shop.com/en/customer-pictures.html

Or...

If you're looking a cheaper option, you could buy some shelving in IKEA that's supposed to be straight and of equal spacing and then get ME to assemble it.

doubleyoubee | 13 January 2011 - 5:33pm

Arf

The veal's good

0
Twangothan | 13 January 2011 - 6:44pm

Ooooh, lovely shelves...

We have the Ikea ones & they're great. Just ogled the Cubit customer pics; yum.

andielou | 13 January 2011 - 7:12pm

where am I going wrong?

Obviously this isn't representative of the rest of my house which is a triumph of minimalist sleekness.

0
katyg | 13 January 2011 - 7:43pm

I have Icubes

which are good and relatively cheap too.
