My Subscription Dilemna

dai's picture

The Word is my favourite magazine. I live in Canada, rather than pay the expensive overseas subscription, I have a gift one for 36 pounds a year. My brother receives the magazines in the UK and I get access to the online content for a reasonable price. He has little interest in the magazine.

It's time to renew, I am thinking of going ahead, but I am wondering whether there may be a more cost effective and eco friendly method around the corner. A competitor has an electronic version for 20 pounds, can be read online, and also includes an iPad app (unfortunately not an iPhone one).

So, Messrs Hepworth and Lewry, what should I do ? Is something coming soon ?

Find another (happier) recipient?

I am in the same boat as you - live overseas, have the hard-copy sent to a family member. If your brother doesn't like the mag, perhaps someone else will?

I realise that in these cash-strapped times a virtual only offer might suit some folk.

My sister (happy recipient of a free Word magazine) just called to tell me that I have received my FINAL notice to renew my subscription. She was a little cross I left it late so I duly complied.

This won't be much help

But we're considering a couple of options, and I'd hesitate to put a date on when things will happen if they happen.

Is Zinio one of the options

Is Zinio one of the options you're considering, Fraser?

It's only just occurred to me

I haven't had the email directing me to the online version for months. Could you check on this, Fraser?

Well...

The e-mail address you used when registering with the site isn't showing up in the subscriber database, but that's not unusual - e-mail me a few more details (another e-mail address it might be alongside your first name and surname, and I'll see if I can figure out what's happening.
