Musician in great art shocker!
Posted by jonnyartist on 19 February 2011 - 4:07pm.
We have occasionaly discussed the relative merits of art produced by pop stars on this here site. The conclusion reached is usually that it is at worst shocking, and at best derivative. But wait, i might have found an exception. Richard Butler, frontman for The Psychedelic Furs, i would suggest is producing highly credible, and slightly trippy paintings.
Anyway, just thought you might like to see them, follow the link below.

Absolutely agree.
Very nicely done. I must say I'm rather impressed.
They're rather cool arent
They're rather cool arent they? I think i would have liked them even if i hadnt known of the artist. He's also rather wisely keeping a low association with the day job, in fairness probably a little easier to do than McCartney
Saw the Furs
on their recent "Talk Talk Talk" reunion tour. They were smashing, the songs were great and Mr B seemed to be bouncing up and down like a very happy man indeed.
I know very little about art, but the paintings work for me.
I remember something on the telly about this.
Showing the crude amateurish daubings of assorted musicians who fancied themselves as being a bit arty to an Art Critic. It might have been Richard Dorment from The Telegraph. Anyway. He was asked to comment on them before being told who the artist was. He rubbished them all apart from one which he looked at warmly. "Aah. A Don Van Vliet.."
He went on to say how talented the late TMRH was with a paintbrush in his hand and wondered why he'd wasted his time making records whaen he could have been painting.
