Music For Grown Ups

Dug the Big Star vinyl out the other day and it still sounds surprisingly good. The video won't win any awards but hey you get the picture.

I'm a late arrival to Big Star ...

...but I love their stuff, and they were clearly a huge influence on Teenage Fanclub. Has anyone bought the new Big Star box set? That's on my shopping list. Also recently came across the late Chris Bell's excellent solo album. Here's something from that:

Music for grown-ups?

Weren't they about 21 when they made it?

Ah but you know what they

Ah but you know what they say "Old heads" and all that. By the way great track Martin hadn't heard that before.

I lost my vinyl at 17

and made do with a crappy cassette until recently but the re-issued remastered "#1 Record" is, well ... a No.1 record.

Mixed feelings about the reformation though (comes from being a man of catholic tastes I suppose (sorry!)) and would like someone else to buy the box set and tell me what its like. Any takers?

I, too, came to Big Star rather late.

#1 record and Radio City.. genius.

Third and Sister Lovers.. can't get 'em at all.

Odd.
