Music based headline in yesterdays Metro

seanioio's picture

I saw this gem in yesterdays metro;

http://e-edition.metro.co.uk/2009/11/23/index.html?p=9

Do you think that Andy Partridge maybe works there?

Its not quite as good as the classic 'Four kestrels manoeuvre in the dark...' from the herefordshire news but it still made me laugh.

Has anyone else seen any good music based headlines??

Ah thats annoying, It was a story about a guy called Nigel Parker who works at Homebase in Portishead, Avon. He is so popular with customers & staff that they voted for him to turn on the local christmas lights. The headline;

'Making grand plans for Nigel'

One in the FT at the height of Britpop...

... was heading a story about the troubles a corporation called Oasis was having in floating themselves on the stock market because their papermaking division was losing money:

"PULP BLURS OASIS ISSUE"

Absolutely true - I'm told by someone in the trade that the sub-editors there have an informal contest to see who can sneak in the best such things under the radar.

The Best Ever

The best ever music-themed headline has to be the one used in the Scottish Sun after Caledonian Thistle beat Celtic in a Scottish Cup game: "Super Cally Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious"

A story in our local paper...

concerned a policemen in the town called Bob Pepper, who was trying to get a singles night off the ground in the function room of one of the hotels. Apparently, the room was double-booked with a group that was trying to practice and an almighty fight broke out over who had first dibs on it, ending with the desperate singles giving the group a good old kicking as poor old Bob Pepper tried to break things up.

Can’t remember the headline, though.

Many many years ago..

a footballer named Gerry Queen, playing at home for Crystal Palace, was sent off for a bout of fisticuffs.
The headline in The News Of The World the following day was:
"Queen In Punchup At Palace"

You beat me to it with the Gerry Queen headline

however, there was, allegedly, a World War 1 headline that read
"British push bottles up Germans".

Also a story about the great explorer

"Sir Vivian Fuchs off to the Antarctic"

And from the Grauniad

A few years ago, early in the cricket season Zahir Abbas was in fine form, scoring a number of centuries and heading for 1,000 runs by the end of May. Another good day at the crease was given the following headline:

"Happy Day, Zahir Again"

The sub must have been very pleased with that one.

My favourite...

...accompanied a story about the discovery of a shape resembling Elvis's face and distinctive quiff in a cake.
The headline?
"In the gateau".
