Music to accompany a snow day?

hermon hermit's picture

As the snow is currently 5" high and rising here in west Wales, I am off work and multi-tasking at home to the fine sounds of Midlake, Bon Iver and kd lang (Hymns of the 49th Parallel) on Spotify.

Any further wintry musical suggestions to accompany this fine weather?

Fleet Foxes probably make the ultimate winter music.

Agreed

There is a parallel universe where "White Winter Hymnal" is the Best Christmas No 1 Ever

Listen the Snow is Falling

It's a Yoko Ono song covered by Thea Gilmore on her last album Strange Communion.

Goldfrapp

Felt Mountain. No finer snowy album has been made. Eric Satie also feels snowy to me. And Air's Moon Safari.

Music and landscape

When people ask for snowy music, the first tune I think of is Goldfrapp's "Lovely Head" on "Felt Mountain". But is that because it's somehow inherently snowy (muffled, perhaps?) or is it just because there's a picture of a snowy forest on the inside sleeve of the CD? Surely the slight touches of Morricone/spaghetti Western should lead us to think of a sweltering desert?
I was pondering this when I read the following article about the "tethering" of particular pieces of music to particular landscapes:

15 Feet of Pure White Snow

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I drove down to Kent from Stafford this morning and am now wondering if I too will be spending the night on the motorway entombed in 15 feet of the white stuff
