MTV Unplugged: Katy Perry

Auntie Beryl's picture

Yes, VH1 is now showing this. Has the cycle now completed? She sounds like Alanis, but not as good as Tori, who in turn was not as good as Kate etc.

Can we now junk this 90s phenomenon? Name a good recent one, The Massive!

Who cares

The poppet has just got engaged to Russell Brand. No doubt he will be spending more time out of the UK.

I love the woman for that.

If memory serves...

She does a Fountains of Wayne song on the show... so she can't be all bad.

The majority of the music channels

seem to have all blended into the same thing

Didn't VH1 used to be predominantly a "rock" channel ?

Nowadays they all seem to show Beyonce and the like on constant rotation

That was a good one.
Only a couple of years ago.

Vh1 Storytellers - KW

Listening to the Kanye West version of this from year. And I'm really enjoying it, probably for all the reasons that Andrew Collins didn't like "808s And Heartbreak" in the first place. Everything is long. Everything is auto-tuned. Everything is crappy synths and strings. And yet its fascinating. Even West's weird little made-up half sung rambles are interesting. Basically, to me, whether right or not, it sounds like a new sort of music. One that might need perfecting, but on "Say You Will" compacts a sort of detached misery that any number of singer-songwriters could only dream of achieving with just an acoustic guitar and a lilting voice. And I suspect that in an album focussing on the feeling of heartbreak, was what West was going for in the first place. The light show was suitably over the top as well.

Enjoyable. But not an MTV unplugged. Similar though, non?

Also, worth checking out on YouTube was the "Chaos and Creation in Abbey Road" special that Paul McCartney did with Nigel Godrich a few years back.
