'The Letter' by The Box Tops...
perfect, short.
Fragile - Wire
From memory it clocks in at 1.47 minutes.(EDIT it's actually 1.18)
Pre ipod days I took on holiday a disc containing nothing but songs less than two minutes long. It had almost 50 songs and of all the discs I had it was by far the one I played the most. It changed so quickly I never tired of it.
It contained among others
7 & 7 Is- The Ramones
She Said Yeah - Rolling Stones
Poor Little Critter on the Road- The Knitters
Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Blue Jean Bop - Paul McCartney
Ghost Riders in the Sky - Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Mactavish is Dead - Don McLean (17 seconds, its a complete song!)
The Penis Song- Monty Python
Hit the Road Jack - Ray Charles
Swamp Walk- Ry Cooder
Fugue for Tinhorns - from Guys and Dolls
Alison's Starting to Happen - Lemonheads
Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows- Lesley Gore

Dang me - Roger Miller
Five Feet High and Rising - Johnny Cash

Fire of Love - Jody Reynolds
It was a good disc
quickly
Coasters - Yakety Yak
Solomon Burke - Stupidity
Ramones - Cretin Hop [Rocket To Russia version]
MC5 - Tutti Frutti

Primal Scream - Velocity Girl
The Beatles - Her Majesty
Anyone remember this?
Contact in Red Square - Blondie (from Plastic Letters)

5
Cemetery Polka - Tom Waits
Little Boxes - Malvina Reynolds
Tony's Theme - Pixies
Rave On - Buddy Holly
It's Not Unusual - Tom Jones
I think these are less than 2 minutes
Worth cramming into the end of a C90 after taping the album (for personal use only).
Territorial Pissings - Nirvana
Shakespeare's Sister - The Smiths
Uselink - Depeche Mode
Get Carter - The Human League
Song 2 - Blur
Honourable mention of The Residents' Commercial Album featuring 40 songs that are all exactly 1 minute long. Sample lyric:
"no-one knows what took place
the night before she died
but when they opened up her purse
they found a snail inside"
And they manage to fit in two guitar solos
Cutting to the news, grab a quick track!
Little tracks like these are godsends in radio. Many a short burst of dead air has been saved by concise songs like these!
Boards of Canada - Wildlife Analysis (1.15)
Conor Oberst - NYC-Gone, Gone (1.11)
Bob Dylan - Oxford Town (1.50)
Iron & Wine - Die (1.07)
And of course, Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz (1.47). Pure Janis magic.
Plenty
Uncle Fucker - South Park the Movie (1:06)
Meet James Ensor - They Might Be Giants (1:33)
Little Deuce Coupe - The Beach Boys (1:41)
God! Show Me Magic - Super Furry Animals (1:48)
I'll Follow The Sun - The Beatles (1:51)

And clocking in at 2:00 exactly:
Grandma's Hands - Bill Withers
When I grow Up To Be A Man - The Beach Boys
They Can't Take That Away From Me - Frank Sinatra
I Keep Mine Hidden - The Smiths
Winter almost over...
Man, I loved The Undertones.
An iTunes smart playlist...
...identified hundreds in my collection but there's no way to export playlists from iTunes to Spotify (yet!)
Then again, a smart playlist function would be REALLY useful in Spotify as well.
Picked from the most played things I have at 2 mins or under.
I'll have:
Nick Drake - Introduction (from Bryter Layter)
Bic Runga - When I See You Smile
Ben Folds - Golden Slumbers
Simon and Garfunkel - 59th Street Bridge Song
The Divine Comedy - My Lovely Horse
I may add them to the Spotify playlist later if
(a) I get time,
(b) any of those songs are on Spotify.
Pixies - Allison
That is all....
The Undertones
Masters of the short song - just one, Here Comes The Summer.
Velocity Girl is genius
but here are some of my other favourite short songs:
