Moments of Pleasure
Having recently rewatched the wonderful Band of Brothers boxset I was reminded how the theme music catches me by surprise every time I watch it. It is a wonderful example of restraint. It can make me weep without it being mawkish. It was one of the last things Michael Kamen wrote before he died. Thinking of him always makes me think of this sublime piece of music - surely one of the best examples of 'strings in pop' there has ever been. His arrangement is beautifully understated and allows the lyric to be the jewel. Until, that is, the 'Here come the hands of time' line and the last 2 minutes of the song are Kamen's - beautifully building, swirling and spinning the strings as Kate runs through the memories and the people that have given her those moments of pleasure. Its a song that will stay with me always.

Definitely
with you on this one, Niall. An absolute gem.
Good call
An absolute gem that somehow passed me by on release. I first heard it last year when Ben Mynott (eclectic down-tempo DJ) played it during one of his 'Fluidnation' slots on the DAB 'Chill' station. It soon became one of my most played songs in 2009. As you say, the final two minutes are the absolute clincher.
'Tis truly beautiful
Marvellous
I think 'The Red Shoes' is unfairly overlooked in general, but great shout for this - it's the kind of song that stops you in your tracks when you first play it and have to put it on again straight away.
Gorgeous
One of my favourite tracks of all time, always gets me emotional. But not so the video - I wish she'd stop going round like that, it's making me dizzy...
