Modern Family

David Sutherland's picture

I've only just recently started watching this programme (it passed me by for some reason), and I (and the GLW) now love it. Sharp, funny writing and great characters (Phil is wonderful...particularly his interaction with his son and his attempts to be hip, cool and the polar opposite of his bossy wife).

Oh and of course, Sofia Vergara...wow!

Try and catch it if you can, it's on Sky 1.

The Guardian had a piece online about it today

It is perfect

There is no weak link and each 20 minutes has had me laugh more than any other sitcom in the last ten years.

The writing is superb and just when you think is may get a bit schmaltzy they always manage to reign it in and fling the scene off somewhere unexpected.

Can't wait for Season 3.

(It's also about the only common comedy ground for the FPO and me)

Season 3 has been on Sky for

Season 3 has been on Sky for a few weeks now (Friday's at 8pm I think - check your local listings, etc). They ocassionally have a week off or show a repeat but I'm pleased to report that the half a dozen or so I've seen this season have been up to scratch.

The new Lily scares the Bejaysus out of me though.

And I should give credit

where it is due as I am blogging on their website.
It is thanks to The Word for bringing it to my attention. I think the review was by Dame Heppo himself.

It's the best comedy since Friends,

and no, I'm not being ironic or clever. Friends was fantastic and so is this. It really has something for the whole family.

The best U.S. sitcom at the moment is

Parks and recreation. Now will a UK broadcaster please pick this up so i can stop having to dress like Dick Turpin to get the latest episodes.

Ditto

with series 3 of Breaking Bad. The fourth series is on in the US and the third isn't even available on DVD here

Modern Family, The Middle and The US Office

Just perfect, perfect comedy.

Some brilliant acting, well observed brilliant writing and superb casting. The Office in particular (probably the biggest budget and biggest bang) has had some genius moments.
