Missing......Presumed Having A Good Time?

The TheIt's a while since we heard anything from Matt Johnson and The The. Will we ever seen them onstage in Britain again I wonder?
Throughout the world of popular music and rock n' roll, there seem to be certain artists/ bands who do something, then disappear off the face of the Earth for ages. Some of them keep writing material and working, but just don't release it. These types of artist never officially annouce they have split up and retired, but keep the world waiting with baited breath, just incase.
Imagine my joy therefore, when I discovered a new Was (Not Was) track on the latest Word CD, after a lengthy hiatus. Prefab Sprout are another case in point; does Paddy Mcaloon just sit at home trimming his beard all day, or work on unheard concept albums about fly fishing and organic eating?
Who else would you like to see re enter the earth's rock n' roll orbit. Please don't say Pink Floyd or you will have to go and stand at the back of the classroom and think about your actions.

Andrew Eldritch

The Sisters of Mercy frontman went awol from his record company in 1993. He periodically emerges from exile to tour. Possibly timing the release of a new album to coincide with the resurgence of trench coats and mirror shades worn indoors, as must-have fashion accessories.

I have a theory about this

The The's disappearance from the radar coincides with the rise of the internet. You may mock, but you try typing 'the the' into Google and see where that gets you.... (it appears that Amazon have sorted out their act, as for a long time that search string would return no results)

Jason Carter | 13 April 2008 - 7:10pm

Agreed

I notice that today when I typed in The The on Google. I know they're not the most prolific of bands, but there's very little on google about them, it's even a struggle to find a picture.

Similarly,

until recently, any attempt to try searching Amazon for anything by the Welsh wizards "Man" resulted in torrents of irrelevance, but they seem to have made some recent changes to improve things.

I saw a news piece on London Tonight the other day,

about concerned Shoreditch residents opposing aggressive redevelopment and so on. One such irate rate-payer did a piece to camera, and bugger me if it wasn't Matt Johnson of The The. So that's what he's up to.

Also, we are considering signing him to The Word Records and renaming his band The The The.

His studio

Is a former bank vault in Shoreditch. No wonder he's opposed to redevelopment.

Paddy

Paddy Prefab is going blind. That might be his daily struggle these days...

Blind Faith

Wasn't aware of that, poor Paddy. He has written some gems over the years though.

Is there really

anyone out there sat at home thinking "what I could really do with now is some new material from The The The'? Surely not?
