Anyone fancy helping organise a Mingle in Edinburgh, or Glasgow?
Can Blast or Malo help?
love to
can it be pre-christmas? (from a selfish perspective, anytime from 10-24 Dec as i'm not drinking til then) ...
sounds like a good idea
I'll send the Blast Signal up into the night sky.
I'll float the date - Friday 9th Dec ? C'mon Glenbervie, it'll be Friday!!
Mingle Passorn 5th Feb
Can you come?
Sorry folks
Forgot to mention I can not do Fri or Sat eves - I have a restaurant and have to be there at weekends. However, I can do Sun eve (11th Dec?) and could bring cds and Thai snacks. Could also make resto and bar available for meeting if that suits (in Edinburgh)
Good idea
Edinburgh would suit me better from a purely selfish point of view. I'd hope to come along unless the date clashes with something else.
As a man of leisure
anytime suits me but as a someone with limited mobility, travel is a bit of a prob. Embra would be out for me but please don't let that sway the vote. We've had five very excellent Glasgow meets so far, time for annar toon's turn.
Edinburgh would
suit me, too, as would a sunday night.
Cheers.
How many
would like to Mingle in Embra on Sun 11th Dec?
What about venue - as stated, I have a small resto that has a ipod/CD player and couple of small Bose speakers. Also, have wine, beer and soft drinks. However, just floating that as do not want to be seen as pushing this option to earn some gelt.
I just fancy meeting like-minded music fans. Have loads of Dylan, Neil, Stones, Fleetwood Mac (Green), Beatles boots which would love to share.
New to this site, but enjoy it enormously.
Me
I would certainly be up for that. Is anyone counting the level of interest?
I'd be happy to help arrangements if we get it moving, and if required. Don't know what organisation would be involved. Perhaps we could pick the brains of those who have already organised/ attended mingles.
This is a marvelous site - I too enjoy it enormously. Welcome.
Organisation
I've emailed Hanna from London for tips on how to set up. Will share once received. Thanks.
It's no big deal
just PM those who are interested or keep them up to speed on here.
Arrange a time and place that suits most.
And in the immortal words of The Pink Fairies - *Do It! Ya Muthas!
It's quite painless, not like a blind date or owt and your life will be enriched by it.
*live Glastonbury Fayre album version, of course
Seconded
Speaking purely as an attendee rather than an organiser, getting a gathering together is no big deal. The date is the tricky part and you seem to have that sorted. Just name the venue and the time and you're away.
I'd be happy to roll through to Auld Reekie from the west - somewhere not too far from Waverley or Haymarket would be ideal. The Cafe Royal or the Guildford might be a goer. Or we could take over the wee back room in Kay's bar (if it still exists and if folk can find it).
would that be
a Thai restaurant very near a real ale bar called Cloisters?
ideal if it is: that's
less than ten minutes' walk from my house!
This is not about female grooming in Scotland then...
gets coat
I wouldn't rule that out
Sun 11 Dec, Edinburgh
Yes - ideal (sorry James) ...
Sun 11th works for me, too, as does
a bar/restaurant that has good music and alcohol in it, so no need to worry about "pushing" your place, ianess.
Cheers.
Oh please, please
ignore my griping, go do it.
I may look into the possibility of an hotel fur thi nicht if I can haz transport to and fro, Hell! a cab to Queens Street, cab from Waverley, cab to abode, cab to venue and the same in reverse is feasible.
Thai food is a passion!
as is smoking and drinking in the company of like minded bods
Apols again!! Is 4th OK??
Hi all. My girlfriend and I have Passorn Thai restaurant in Tollcross, 23 Brougham Street, opposite Cloisters. Only a few minutes cab from Waverley or Haymarket.
She's happy with the Mingle taking it over for a private party, but it would have to be 4th December as mid-December is a very busy time.
Again, sorry for floating a date and having to change.
If the 4th works, then we can have a private party at the restaurant from, say, 6.30 on?
I'll get one of the chefs in to do snacks, soups and noodles - all at a fair price.
I can also do wine, beers, softs at a discount for the Massive.
As stated, we have a fairly good sound system which can do cds or ipod.
Sound good?
I could do
I could do the 4th or the 11th. Sunday's a good night. If the 4th is out for most potential attendees, could you (Ianess) do the 11th - just at another venue? It does, however, seem a shame to pass up on the facilities you have available.
Let's try to get some numbers. Who's available for the 4th in Ianess' Restaurant and who's available for the 11th elsewhere?
i'll have to work
on the 11th as we'll probably be busy on run-up to Christmas.
Hope enough people can do 4th.
i can do either
splendid offer from the Passorn people ...
It's a great offer, and that IS the restaurant just
near me...but I'm not certain I can do the 4th.
However, don't rule me out: I'll try to jiggle around with my schedule and will hopefully report back more positively, in that this sounds like it'll be good, and it's so handily located for me that it'd be a bummer if I was unable to attend.
Cheers, and thanks for such a cool suggestion, ianess.
Hope you all have a great time
Me? I'm off to Specsavers.
I really can't cope much more with mis-reading this thread title as Minge In Scotland.
I read 'midges in Scotland'
and was expecting much discussion of Deet and Skin so Soft.
Imagine how disappointed I was ...
Looking fine
For either date at present.
Update on Edinburgh Dec Mingle
If everyone OK for 4th December at Passorn, then latest is:-
Confirmed:-
ianess (obviously)
Ralph
Glenbervie
Robbie 1112
Possibles (?):-
iainiain
James Blast
El Hombre Malo
Con Coleman
Any others out there who fancy coming along?
I can be added to
the "confirmed" list for the 4th, now, so...hurrah.
Cheers.
I'm seeing
I'm seeing Yashin19 in a bit (we're off to see Pumajaw and others at the Voodoo Rooms). I'll try to get him on board.

Would suggest meeting at 6.30. Restaurant address is 23 Brougham Place, Tollcross. This area is top of Lothian Road, just before Meadows.
My suggestions for music would be if everyone did two 15 minute playlists - one being ''Desert Island Discs' and other being 'Guilty Pleasures'. Just a thought.
I can bring along a few 'Dylan/Cash' boots if anyone fancies.
All suggestions/thoughts gladly welcomed.
Can't believe I've just seen this!
I would have loved to have come along however I cannot - and for a suitably rock'n'roll reason: my son is playing at the Electric Circus that night and I am duty bound to be there. Bugger.

Is he playing in The Industry?
They're rather good and we played a track from their new demo on the radio this afternoon. They're doing a live session next week which I'll miss as I'm spending time with my sons
Yes
I think they're rather good too but must admit to a bias, obviously! Thanks for giving them a play - LeithFM gave them their first ever airtime too , so big thumbs up for local radio.
Edinburgh mingle - Anyone up for it???
Edinburgh Mingle 4th Dec ????

Grand, timings and date
suit me, as does venue. Thanks again for the generosity, re venue.
I'll try to put something together as playlists, although I'm rubbish with technology...but I'll try, so I will!
Cheers, see you a week from tonight.
yes yes yes
shall be there ... alcohol free sadly but definitely coming (mind you, all i seem to listen to at the moment is podcasts and £3 jazz CDs from FOPP so any playlist might be a tad unpoppy)
Looking good
Just another suggestion. In addition to the 15 minute Desert Island Discs and Guilty Pleasures playlists why not do one of best of 2011 or current earworms. If people have the time/ inclination/ technology they could burn a few copies of their 45 minutes of aural heaven for distribution.
Sadly Yashin19 canny make it. He's off the Krackow (sp?) - or so he says.
Like the idea
of best of 2011 or earworms. Have a CD/ipod player at resto. What time suits to kick-off?
Looking forward....
to what will be a small but perfectly formed Mingle
Any more
wish to attend Mingle on 4th at 7pm? Blast or Malo up for it?
Sorry gentlemen
Work calls - I'll be away that night.
I hope you all have a splendid time, and I will look forward to travelling east for the next one.
Just confirming attendance
And I'll sort some music too
Playlist
I had a crack at compiling the 3x15 min play1ists last night
1. Desert Island Discs - Not easy. Each of my DIDs would usually take up most of the 15 minute allocation.
2. Guilty Pleasures - Not easy. I think we're all of a certain age that we care not for what's cool and what's not so what's there to be guilty of?
3. Best of 2011/ current earworms - Not easy. There's just so much good stuff being released.
I really shouldn't take it so seriously. It's not like I'll be judged :-)
Anyway, all done now. Looking forward to Sunday.
Agree
No 'guilt' involved.
Looking forward
to meeting up tonight at 7pm at Passorn, 23 Brougham Place, Tollcross. See you there.
Hope you all had a good night
and that a report is forthcoming.
For the record, The Industry rocked.
And to prove it
The Industry playing their Avalanche single.
Thanks everyone
I had a really entertaining night - great stories and great fun. Hope everyone enjoyed as much as I did and I look forward to an encore. (maybe end January?)
Keith - i think you might have left your CDs. Let me know when you can call in to pick them up.
A fine night out
Good company, food and drink. Plenty of blethers and a quiz. Let's do it again.
Yup, I, too, had a splendid time.
Thanks for the venue, food and drink, Ian; thanks, too, for the CDs, everyone.
More than happy to meet again as and when - just let me know.
Cheers.
Great night
I agree that this was a great success. A couple of the attendees’ paths had crossed before but, in the main, we were initially strangers… but it immediately became clear that we were amongst our own. Not surprisingly it didn’t take long for attendees to start recalling memorable gigs over the years. Again, not surprisingly, there were a lot of calls of “I was there too!”.
Good food, a few drinks (remember it was a Sunday), good music in comfortable surroundings. We even had a wee quiz. Damn tricky it was too.
On the matter of matter of CDs for distribution, which I bought into, I realised on the way home that I forgot to distribute mine (maybe a good thing) - they were still in my bag. I also forgot to lift a copy of the disc Keith had brought. I’ll call in the next time I’m in town to collect it if there’s one still there.
Anyway, we’re hoping we can do it again. I know that there were at least a couple of people who would like to have been there but were otherwise engaged.
Thanks again to Iain for the organisation and the hospitality.
Hello
Sorry - I've been on backshift all week so haven't been near the website - but thanks very much indeed to ianess and his sous chef ... good chat, good snacks and even a popquiz... i shall start to seek more Thai restaurants that have Beefheart on the sound system (although i suspect there aren't any) ... would certainly be up for doing this again in the new year
also, ianess - stupid of me to forget to take CDs with me - will give you a shout on the phone later today to arrange a pickup time
Edinburgh Mingle
Anyone out there fancy a repeat session at Passorn on Sunday 5th February?
If it's OK, I can do the same as the last one - i.e. Provide chef, snacks and drinks at a discount plus another '60s/70s oriented quiz.
I really enjoyed the last one.
This time, I will bring a 'best of Neil Young live' culled from various boots.
Can I leave it to someone else to suggest a 'theme' and everyone bring a 20 minute selection based on that?
Can I suggest we kick-off around 7pm?
Here's hoping Lando, Blast, Malo, Steven G, Yashin, Con and any others I've forgotten can also join us.
yes
love to ... as long as i'm not barred for putting the theme from Roobarb & Custard on the CD i burned last time

Include me in
I'm up for it, Ian.
Look forward
to meeting up.
Count me in
I'll put some pressure on Yashin to attend. I'll also lean on z1000jeff (sometimes known as big brother).
Thanks
Put the word around. More the merrier.
I should be able to manage along, again.
Grand - thanks, Ian.
Yes From Me
I should be fine for that. Is it worth starting a new thread for this one?
How about a theme of train related tunes for a CD? That should be a broad enough theme to play with.
Great
to hear you're both coming. Don't know how to start threads. Train-related fine by me.
Same way
you started this one, Ian.
Forgotten how to !
Went to 'create content', but limited to 'beach reads' etc
No 'blog entry'?
Calling all Scots
plus those who live in or near Scotland.
Fancy coming to an Edinburgh Mingle on Sunday eve 5th Feb?
Boeys
I'd love to make it but my mobility is down to about 4mls.
Sounds like ye's hud a boss nicht oot last time, so's I'm sure ye'll dae us proud again.
Time us West Coast geezers hud a meet.
Gennilm'n...
An alternative suggestion
Something else has come up on 5th February. Basically a House Concert with an act from New Orleans that I am keen to attend. For various reasons I cannot go into all the details here ( not being wilfully mysterious honest). This will take place at a venue that iainiain and I regularly attend and Iain quite fancies the gig too.
Given that our numbers are quite small it would be possible for us all to attend and I'm pretty confident it will be a good night.
Gig costs £10 per head and 100% of the money goes to the act, it is bring your own drink and a great setting in a relatively central location.
Let me know what you think. I'm not trying to scupper the Mingle as I'd like to attend another one of those too
I believe I know the place!
It is indeed a great venue. Difficult for those who don't know each other to meet up though, no?
Easily sorted!
By meeting for a pre gig pint nearby
That act from New Orleans
looks rather interesting.
I'm posting the youtube clip below because the tuba improvisation at 1.03 made me chuckle.
Potentially interested Ralph
I'll drop you an email.
Are you able
to make Feb 12th?
Can do
Sundays are actually pretty good for me. I dont gig and the fact that it's a school night has the effect of curtailing my drinking. Not that my drinking's a huge problem - just the following day can be.
Great
I'll put a Neil boot together.
Would everyone like
to meet at Passorn on a different Sunday in Feb or March?
I'm fairly easy, really: if
we change the date, I wouldn't mind seeing the gig Ralph's mentioned (but if we stick to the 5th I'll more likely just head to Passorn); if we change the date, I'm free Sundays other than ones when I'm gigging (which are Feb 19th and 26th and March 25th).
As I said, though, I'm happy to stick to original date, if it keeps things simple for the majority.
Cheers, hopefully we'll all meet up soon.
I'll go with the flow
I can make my apologies for the 5th and catch up next time around. I shall of course tell you what a fabulous gig it was.
Ron Sexsmith last night was pretty fine too.
Sorry I can't make this one either
I'm away with work - won't be back until 11th Feb.
whatever you all get up to, I hope you have a great time
God, I need reading glasses
I honestly thought the sidebar said "Minge in Scotland"
Cue enormous double take and dawning realisation.
As you were...
God, I need reading glasses
.
.
.
double post
What about
postponing it one week and having it on Feb 12th?
Means Ralph and Ian can go to gig and malo could join?
Any thoughts?
Who'd be up for it?
Fine by me
Gives me more time to work on my train songs.
That works for me
And if anyone fancies the gig as well, just let me know.
Any more takers
for Feb 12th at Passorn? - GlenB, Ian, malo, robbie, yashin?
Possibly me for the 12th.
I need to check with work though. How far away from either station is it as I don't want to drive. I live near Falkirk.
It's near Haymarket
About a 10-15 minute walk. Brougham Place, Tollcross, just before Meadows.
Unfortunately, 5th was only Sunday
in Feb I could do.
However, I'm sure there'll be a "next time", so I'll catch up then.
Cheers, hope it all goes well (again).
That's a shame
I thought you weren't gigging that eve.
evening all
won't be doing that gig on 5th but heading back to Passorn on 12th Feb sounds fine - enjoyed it last time, so all in favour of doing it again
so if it's on, i'll be there on 12th
Reminder
to all interested.
Mingle at Passorn on 12th Feb.
Kick-off 7pm. Snacks and drinks.
Fiendish quiz being prepared.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Needs a new post, I think
I say that because this one will be far down the blog list and only seen by original contributors.
I'm not sure I'm expressing that well - hope it makes some sort of sense!
to get this back up the page...
we on for tonight then? (Sun 12 Feb)
See you there
Burning the discs right now
