So it's come to this. Over the years I've seen The Kinks, the La's, Leonard Cohen and now...Mike Harding. It was the husband's choice and I thought it might be fun, but it was like experiencing a saucy seaside postcard version of Britain. The kind of place where men don't see their wives naked until their wedding night. There were a few songs, a lot of chat and some of it was funny (I did like the story involving the tortoise) but he hadn't really made any effort to bring his act into the 21st century and some stories, like the school nativity, I could imagine Billy Connolly telling much better. Not that any of this really bothered the audience, who loved it and probably remembered it all from the first time around ! The husband enjoyed it, but doesn't feel the need to go again.
The Audience:
We were probably amongst the youngest there if you don't count the youngsters dragged along by their parents/grandparents. A 50+ audience dressed for comfort rather than style and beards a-plenty. Sang along enthusiastically when requested.
Food & Drink:
There was a bar but it was mobbed so we just headed to the kiosk where we found bottles of water, over-priced at £1.50. Still, I suppose it all goes towards renovation/upkeep costs.
It Made Me Think...:
Some acts seem to be timeless, whilst some can seem rather dated if they stick to old material, but there's an audience out there for both.
