Microsoft Songsmith does the classics

itf's picture

I know this has been mentioned here before, but there's been some classic work since.

For those not 'in the know', Microsoft Songsmith is a piece of software that automatically generates background music while you sing along. It was heralded by this quite astoundingly awful commercial.

The commercial 'went viral' as they say. People with acapella versions of classic songs got hold of it. The results transcend the originals in every way...

Roxanne by The Police:

Creep by Radiohead:

There's more, but you get the picture...

Superb!

That's an excellent version of Creep. Far more convincing than Yorke's glitch techno experiments

No...

...interesting idea, but I never ever ever want to hear those versions again. Not once. Not ever. Ever.

Ever.

What is the point of this?

Jeez, the persons responsible for this need to get a life..

It's been voted the

worst ad in history.
The versions of Creep and Roxanne are stunning. I can't wait to hear more. Some Springsteen would be nice, or Steely Dan maybe. Oasis, now that would be good. If anyone can post those I would be grateful.
Trivia fans note, apparently it's a Macbook they're using in the ad.
Ah, Microsoft. Don't you just love 'em.
