Memoirs of a Geezer? PPR more like

Sid Williams's picture

I just read the Jah Wobble article in the latest (for me) edition. He seems to come across as this east end, salt of the earth bloke and a bit of a hard man to boot, bit of a brickie with a soft side.

Hang about - isnt this the same Jah Wobble who holds the distinction of being the only artist in the history of Later with Jools Holland to refuse to play in the opening jam, claiming that it was demeaning to his art.

another candidate for the most Pretentious Prick in Rock anyone?

Ha ha!

I didn't know that. Someone has to make a stand, I suppose...

I won't hold that against him though. I stood next to him on the terraces at White Hart Lane on many occasions back in the day. Top bloke all round!

So we dismiss him just for that one moment?

Actually I think that jam is pretty tedious, so I can't get too worked up about his strop. My other impressions of him are pretty positive.

Wobble Bored

Refusing the jam was like going on Question Time and refusing to talk. If you don't like the format don't go on.

I tried with his book, but got fed up after a while. I realised that I could not care less what happened after Metal Box was, dare I say it, in the can, and he started to slag off the reader. I started reading Frank Skinner's book On The Road which is far more interesting.

If you want pretention have a read of of Jah's book - in some of the passages he goes so far up his arse you can see out of his mouth.

I watched part of the Sid Vicious programme on Sky last week and thought that the punk story has pretty much been told now - those who were in favour (me included) have heard everything that there is to hear, and those who were not are never going to care now. Jah was on there trying to re-cast Sid as a misunderstood man with hidden depths, but all I saw was the cartoon punk who, in the memorable words of Steve Jones, could not play a f------ note.

The Fall

refused to do it too. Don't know if it's on YouTube, but see if you can find the footage, it's hilarious -- they all stood there grinning and waving instead.

WARNING - re chinese internet

I thought i might add a warning to the last reply. I clicked on the link and before I could watch the clip my Pc asked me put my copy of Xp Pro into my DVD rom as it needed to update files for the chinese bit of this software to update. Three hours and a lot of stress later - I thought for a while that I would have to reload Xp and load/update all my software again. I couldn't get XP to reatart in safe mode. Eventually after leaving the PC in limbo while I took the FPO shopping and came home and restarted and it kicked in. I won't be connecting to any Chinese websites again in a hurry.

There may be another explanation..

"I'm not playing in the intro if that shower of shite pick up their instruments. Tell them to sodding wave or something."

"Aye. Me too."

"And us.."
