Memo to Kid Rock

Thanks I'm sure, but you really shouldn't have bothered. Really.

…shouldn't have bothered!?

Tarring and feathering would be letting him off lightly!
It's been number 1 here in Germany for a couple of weeks already and on very heavy rotation.
Now, hearing the original again, reminds me just why "All Summer Long" irritates me so much - it's not just the raping & pillaging of a couple of classics it's also the abysmal, sub-standard, trying to be Bob Seeger like lyrics.
Would somebody like to chip in for another barrel of tar - the price has gone up rather a lot recently?

on the other hand...

isn't it such a shame that Warren Z isn't with us anymore so that at least he could finally enjoy decent royalties off a record sale! I'm sure it'd numb the pain somewhat!

In fairness to radio stations here in Ireland, most of the DJs have been quick to point out that it's *not* just sampling Sweet Home Alabama, but that there's another song in there. Not that i've heard Werewolves played much, mind...

I don't know, I kinda like it

What could be nicer than going back to a happier, kinder place? I fondly remember playing the Fun Loving Criminals to my ggod friend James and him saying "So, essentially they just take an intro, repeat it for ages and then sing different words over it?". Essentially, yes.

Also

Can you copyright a title? Does Brian Wilson get anything?

Lucas Hare | 20 July 2008 - 7:51am

No

Band names and titles cannot be copywrited. Trade Mark and Registered can eventually be applied to a band name ie. The Rolling StonesTM.

If do feel the need tamper with Sweet Home Alabama

then this is surely the way to go:

StevenC | 20 July 2008 - 8:40am

A much better way

to tamper with Sweet Home Alabama.

Flogging

isn't good enough for him (but I kinda like it). As long as he does not make a penny from it and WZ gets more airplay.

Alabam' don't give a damn

I'm no fan of Kid Rock, but relatively speaking I don't mind the song - there is at least an idea there, and two riffs are merged together seamlessly, even if they are two of the most brilliantly basic and obviously compatible riffs in rock history (D, C, G, bingo!). And it acknowledges the main song in its lyrics, and shows the Skynyrd prominently in the video. Only the dimmest youngster would come away from it thinking it was totally a Kid Rock original.
