May Manchester Massive Mingle or Late April Associates Assemblage?

Grant's picture

It may seem slightly premature, but after the reported rip-snorting success that was the London Massive's meeting, I am duty-bound to respond to Vinnell's request, continuing the emerging tradition and float suggested dates for the reconvening of the North-West Massive.

Also, by posting early maybe some of the esteemed WORD staffers might forsake the beautiful south and make a pilgrimage to the dark satanic north to press the flesh, be bought drinks and be given deep metaphorical hugs by us!

I appreciate that people have to make arrangements (pay off / pledge future payback to the FPO/GLW) so I'd like to float a few suggestions..

Location - Britons Protection (if it ain't broke..) Manchester.
Dates - Friday (Of course) 30th April / May 14th (in deference to Vinnell)

Now I appreciate that some of the Merseyside Massive might take issue about venturing towards M(ordor)anchester, but would plead with those brothers and sisters to put aside such reservations and join us (JOIN US!!)

I'm hoping that we'll get more folk wanting to come to this next one as the last one went so well, so we might have to revise location(s) as we get more possible or can we book a room at the Protection?

Beany? Your thoughts?

So let me know if you're interested in the dates suggested, which one you'd prefer and let's get this party started!

Thoughts?

Think it might snow tomorrow...

No problems on either date for me. May 3rd is a Bank Holiday for those who are looking for sun, sea & sangria (Manchester can provide all 3).

Just make sure Mr 99% True is available. Then the rest of the staff will be begging to be let out for the night. As for the Merseyside Mob, I would venture west to anything organised over there. It is, in the words of Peter Sellers, the place where American rock & roll began, although Manchester is the city where rain was invented.

As ever.

Due to Familial commitments,Carer an all that I'll once again have to cry off.I'll be there in spirit, hope all there have a humdinger of a time. It's a pity as I have no Artistic demands on me this time but if it's not one thing It's another. If any of the Massive are ever in the Chester area let me know,I can usually organize a short time away from my charges with advance warning and would welcome the company.

I can do

either. But if pressed would go for April 30th, as it's nearer.

Prestonia | 29 March 2010 - 6:50pm

Thanks Prestonia

That's one - any more?

0
Grant | 29 March 2010 - 6:57pm

"As it's nearer"

That's the spirit. Good company & beer. I shall forego the car this time. If it gets any earlier it could fit in with the Wetherspoon's Real Ale Festival that runs from April 7 - 25. 50 ales but not at the same time.

I shall hope to try Elgood's Hawkwind & Triple FFF Rock Lobster

Beany | 29 March 2010 - 7:17pm

I should be

able to venture forth once more on either date.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 29 March 2010 - 7:37pm

Good stuff - looking forward

to seeing you - I'm gravitating towards the 30th myself. The sooner the better?

0
Grant | 29 March 2010 - 7:41pm

The Doctor is Inn

April 30th Assemblage looks good for me so far, in fact I should be 'fresh' from the Islington Word-In-Your-Ear shindig...perhaps if I can get past the security I can buttonhole Word staffers on the night and encourage them to join us up North on the Friday. A Rock and Pop spelling quiz with Mike 'Seventies' Johnson would do for me!

I could also do the May 14th but I'm going to a gig so would have to leave mid-Mingle.

Dr Volume | 29 March 2010 - 11:05pm

Sounds like a plan

Looking forward to meeting you Dr V!

0
Grant | 30 March 2010 - 9:20am

The 30th seems to be leading the field

at the moment - shall we just say that's the date then?

0
Grant | 29 March 2010 - 11:19pm

Either will do for me.

I'll have to start honing my Paris Hilton story!

0
tkdmart | 29 March 2010 - 11:31pm

Only allowed

If you come wearing your Martin & Martin outfit and perform your "hit" single...

1
Beany | 30 March 2010 - 12:45am

Appetite whetted

and I have no stories. Bugger.
You'll also have to tell your Liv Tyler one too? Please?

0
Grant | 30 March 2010 - 4:39am

I had an idea

that we might all bring one piece of music memorabilia that is special to us and explain why at the meet. It might be a record, a ticket stub, a programme. Just bring it along and share the memories....

30th sounds like an upgrade from pencil to pen in the Bisto diary.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 30 March 2010 - 10:13am

I like it...

sort of a pop and rock "show and tell"?
Yep, the 30th is looking good.

Thanks Bisto!

0
Grant | 30 March 2010 - 1:24pm

With tdkmart

having set the bar so high I feel we are all duty bound to at least attempt to reach it.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 30 March 2010 - 2:53pm

Good point.

We've all got to pitch in!

0
Grant | 30 March 2010 - 5:10pm

Have no fear

I shall be lowering the bar so low not even a pygmy would be able to limbo under it.

Pft! Liv Tyler? I've met Don Estelle!

0
Beany | 30 March 2010 - 5:20pm

I'm in

Such is the hectic whirl of my social life, either date is fine by me.

As for a piece of music memorabilia, hmm ... if I can't find anything, I could just grab the Elbow mug from my desk (tea stains and all) and bring it with me.

0
millymollymandy | 30 March 2010 - 1:26pm

Hi Milly

Good to hear from you, glad you're onboard, it's looking like the 30th.

0
Grant | 30 March 2010 - 2:37pm

Count Me In

After such a good time last time, anyone would be mad to miss this outing.

Now I've just got to find the relevant piece of memorabilia... Jarvis' biro? The house that Cud built? The signed Nolans LP I inherited from my Granddad?

0
Andrew Rowan | 31 March 2010 - 5:45pm

Nolans LP sounds good

Is it scratch n sniff?

0
Grant | 31 March 2010 - 9:06pm

Nolans it is then

Can I bring my Singing Nolans LP?

0
Beany | 31 March 2010 - 11:02pm

I think...

... that's the one I have signed. I'll have to dig it out now.

0
Andrew Rowan | 1 April 2010 - 9:12am

Having just pitched up in Manchester

After 50 years as a fully paid up southern Jessie, and having more spare time than I know what to do with, count me in on either date.

0
Graham Johns | 1 April 2010 - 1:01am

Welcome aboard

Looking forward to seeing you on the 30th (looking most likely date)!

0
Grant | 1 April 2010 - 5:45am

Sithee Graham

Thet be gradely welcum t'gathering. Lanky dictionary optional.

0
Beany | 1 April 2010 - 10:20am

no can do

Sorry to say but that night I'll be driving down to see Dagenham and Redbridge take on Hereford. No, I don't support either team and yes it's a long story - but have a good night and I hope to be at the next one.
My social calendar normally has more windows than a greenhouse so it's amazing that I'm doing something else. Ah well.

0
WholeHogg | 13 April 2010 - 10:47pm

ah bugger

Hope the match is worthy of your presence.

0
Grant | 15 April 2010 - 12:26am

are we still on?

there hasn't been any mention of the Assemblage for a while. Just checking.

0
tkdmart | 28 April 2010 - 8:53pm

We're still a go

Looking forward to seeing you there!

0
Grant | 28 April 2010 - 11:13pm

Excellent!

0
tkdmart | 28 April 2010 - 11:18pm

I'm

still game..

0
Prestonia | 29 April 2010 - 12:24am

Ditto

Will need to find a seat, having cracked a bone in my big toe. Could have done with Dr.Volume but the nice nurse from A&E took me in hand...

0
Beany | 29 April 2010 - 5:40pm

I'll be there, Gents

and there for the duration (hopefully)!

0
Grant | 29 April 2010 - 8:14pm

I'm in, and we should be

I'm in, and we should be joined by newcomer hazeyjane (yes a lady!). Grant, wonder if there should be a new blog entry to remind anyone whos not been folllwing this thread?

0
Dr Volume | 29 April 2010 - 8:46pm

How's that
