Martina Mcbride

I love Martina. One super perfect new country weepy, and one left field performance with the Chieftans which, I venture, shows she actually means it. Both highly recommended after a few drops of the good stuff, for maximum Kleenex effect. Finally, for fun, a duet with her hero, Pat Benetar. And not an autotune in sight.
The second and third videos are in the comments.

Ta Fraser!
Ta Fraser!
I'm impressed, and I haven't had a malt yet today.
Kick-ass band behind Martina and Pat; it's nice to hear them stretch the envelope a little, considering the audience and setting. And the Chieftains were cruising nicely too.
What's the best way into the McBride back catalogue, Twangers?
I've added Wild Angels to my wish-list on the basis that it's largely acoustic; is there a rocked-up one that's worth getting too?
Well....
They all vary a lot in terms of feel but Wild Angels is an excellent start - songs by people like Matraca Berg and Gretchen Peters, and a stonking version of "Two more bottles of wine" which was apparently live in the studio (they still do that in Nashville - quaint huh) - listen to Martina whoop right before the piano solo at 1.48, and a then a Nashville session cat guitar solo letting rip....the one after that is rockier in a country kinda way y'all - "Emotion".
Interesting if you're a country fan is her "Timeless" album which is a collection of country classics recorded in the way the original would have been, with very little compression and modern buggering about.
It's just moved from wish-list to current order.
And I didn't even have to wait for the vocal to start.
That Tele guitar sound just demands to be played at speaker threatening levels on the M4 run into work at 6 something on a Monday morning.
Before I go back to actually hear the song, can I presume you're well kitted out with Dwight Yoakam recordings too?
Indeedy.....
And if you like that, do you have the Pete Anderson solo album - Dwight's producer and guitarist? Tele lover hog heaven. Though perversely on the video he's playing a Strat though my ears are saying Tele...
Hmm..
"Both highly recommended after a few drops of the good stuff, for maximum Kleenex effect."
Cor.. not 'alf.
Especially the Pat Benetar one. She always makes me reach for the Kleenex.
We are talking about the same thing, aren't we?
