Mark Kermode - what a thoroughly nice man
Posted by PaddyH on 12 February 2010 - 1:00pm.
Inspired by the concurrently running thread about famous people who aren't very nice, I would like to express my deepest admiration for Dr Mark Kermode - I hope he is lurking here at the parish noticeboard.
A brilliant raconteur and performer, (I'll do a My Night with... for Monday) he put in a great shift entertaining the troops while promoting his new book at FACT in Liverpool last night.
Then during the signing he was interested enough to listen to and answer some questions on Bob Fosse from a couple of students, offering them essay advice.
And from a FACT insider I know, the very essence of unstarry, niceness off stage.
It's always a tremendous relief to find this out about the ones you admire.

I'm gald to hear that PH
I really like Mark Kermode and I think he should get the Film 2010(?) slot that Wossy vacated - unless, of course, he doesn't want it. I always watch his little things from R5 with Simon Mayo on the BBCiplayer, and he is a very, very engaging fellow. Also, he's not afraid to big-up movies that have been ignored by his peers - i.e. the Exorcist, which has been woefully underrated by pundits apprasing the US auteurs of the 70s.
I'm not being crawly-bumlick, but this has given me heart, Mark can seem a bit stiff and aggressive at times (probably in innate shyness, who knows?), so thanks for that.
Mark Being Nice
I used to work for a magazine that Mark wrote regularly for, and he was, without a doubt, our favourite freelancer. Always friendly, helpful, good fun and never ever late.
He's a lovely man.
In a previous life I also worked with him briefly.
All of the above is true.
Easily
the most qualified for the Film 2010 and indeed 2000 ad infinitum slot.
jobshare???
i've heard that it's jason soloman's but apparently the money is on mark kermode
i'd like them to change the format and do a review show like they do in the u.s. as the film 21?? format is dated and they rarely give a bad review to a film they are doing interviews to
Shouldnt someone else do it?
He's everywhere and in danger of being overexposed. I listened to him and Mayo this afternoon and really its the same old schtick.
Be good to get someone different in. Leave everything else to Kermode.
Interviewed him once.
Lovely man.
